How do you check the Plate Voltage??

More specifically on a Bogner Ecstasy....but in general would be helpful. I'm comfortable inside opened-up amps and always bias my own amps and have done minor mods before. I currently own a Bias King which does not show the Plate Voltage.

Thanks!

I just use the eurotubes bias probe. I just bought the standard probe that you connect to a multimeter to measure plate current. I install the tube into the eurotubes socket - and leave a small gap (about 1/8") between the tube and the eurotube socket. This allows me to directly measure the plate voltage on the tube's pin (with respect to GND) with a second multimeter. Peavey amp I just biased a week ago had a plate Voltage of 495VDC - you MUST be careful taking these measurements!!

How do you bias your amp without first knowing knowing the plate voltage?

I use a Compu-Bias, which shows PV.

Or you can use a DMM to measure PV. Set to VDC. Black clip grounded to chassis, red probe (or clip) to pin 3. Amp off standby.

If you want to measure screen voltage, repeat with pin 4.

Bias supply is pin 5 (negative number).

You have the plate voltage value from the measurement made at the tube's pin, as well as the plate current from the eurotubes bias probe.
