how fully do you use your guitar neck/strings?

I've noticed that I spend equal amount of time using all 6 strings, and I use most of the neck but I need to start using the upper frets more (17th fret upwards), as well as the EBG strings at the first 2 frets.

do you use the whole neck and all the strings regularly?

I rarely use the 21 thru the 24 frets on the low E and A strings.

I don't use frets 22-24.

But having 24 frets makes bending the 21st much easier.

Notice the change in neck color... It tells the story

yeah the strings question came because I read somewhere from someone that he rarely used the low E and A strings....he was mostly using EBGD.... I realized I used all the strings pretty equally.

Funny enough, for me it depends on the guitar. And I use different guitars depending on what's demanded from my playing with the music given. I don't go to high on my Les Pauls, it's just not as comfortable. If I am into higher scale soloing, I'll use one of my ESPs. Even my Suhr is easier to tackle the top frets.

Overall though, I'd use my Les Pauls in a pinch for anything - if needed. I'm just fortunate enough to have a number of tools for different jobs.

 Does it really matter? Guess I'm with Steve on if this is a trick question? I think it all depends on how you approach the instrument, your listening capability/note selection and how you interpret music on the guitar. I've heard a version of Paganini's 24 Caprices on just a traditional Classical guitar ( no cutaway)...it was a great interpretation from the violin and sounded great. I think it also depends on the music you play. sometimes blues based playing is very box oriented, but then again, you got guys like eric johnson who play pentatonics from the 1st to 21st, cause he's going after a sound and has the chops to do execute flawless!

here's some old strats of mine ive owned for 20+ years.

I call bullshit.

BULLSHIT!!!
Ya know, I'm gonna support Joey on this one as it wasn't even 2 nights ago I was playing some stuff that I'm working on and I noticed that of the 3 tunes I was working on, they were indeed all within a similar 'area' of the guitar, and coincidentally, the solos accopmanying these tunes were 'also' in similar 'areas'. These are blues-box based with for the most part pentatonic derivations for solos, they're getting fleshed out, and when they become 2nd nature, maybe things will get a little more creative. But ya, I thought to myself "gawd, there's a lot of terrain on this guitar that I'm just not using!!".

So it goes, just my 4 cents
