How important is the effects loop to you?

Is an effects loop a must have when buying an amp? Will it make/break the purchase for you? Will go have it modded for a loop if you want it? Just run pedals upfront if there is no loop? Just curious to hear everyones responses.

It's a "must have" for me, so I will only consider amps which have them.

Not a must if the amp is that good, say a 68 plexi or a Komet Concorde. I don't mind not having it on those simple 1 channel amps

Its almost a must for modern channel switchers though...

An old marshall?? Why ruin a good thing? Newer modern amps?? No loop..No buy..

Right on.

Old marshalls nothing a HP and another PA can't fix.

Anything new must have a loop, it provides the water of life.

These ^^

On multichannel amps the effects loop is a must.

On single channel amps, I can get by without an effects loop as I generally get most of my gain from pedals on those amps.
My current stock of Single channel amps are vintage amps, no plans to mod them for an effects loop. If I did I would make the effects loop switchable (preferably footswitchable)

same for me.
if it's for bedroom practice, I don't care because I don't use FX.
but it's for my "main" rig. absolutely a must.
won't even consider amps without an fx loop.

Hardly use loops. Live I do without the hassle & focus on tone; recording there are plenty of in the box options. Funny, every amp I have has a loop that gets neglected

In a modern amp I must have one. I recently turned dow a fantastic sounding VHT because it didn't have a loop. Too bad.

However, with my JTM45 or Fenders I don't need or want a loop.

Consensus seems to be the loops are more desirable for modern amps, and one channel/ vintage amps do not require them. Do you use loops for rack gear or because you want your pedals( non gain) in the loop instead of upfront?

if the amp has a built in gate (kerry king marshall, engl, etc) there is no need for a loop for me. i don't use time based effects.

if no built in loop, i use a decimator in the loop to silence any hiss/noise.

Because I want delay and modulation effects (pedals) after the preamp section on a multi-channel amp.

I won't purchase an amp that doesn't have a loop. Delay sounds like ass infront of an amp.

not important, only would use something in it if I couldn't get a line out to my fx rack. I have a loop in my Marsha and have never even plugged anything into it!
