How is that EVH 2x12?

Some folks like it, I absolutely do not. I tried some Lynchbacks in it as well and it still didn’t sound like what I was hoping for. I have a Mesa Recto horizontal 212 that is modified and it absolutely slays.

Lots of folks use these with great success and probably have a different experience then me. I am just reporting how it worked out for me. I have had 2 of them over the years.

Also note that the EVH 2x12 is loaded with G12H-30 70th anniversary speakers, and NOT the EVH greenbacks ( which are F'n incredible by the way )
It's a bright cab that seems too small to properly reproduce the frequency response of the H30's.
I like the 70th anni speakers in a 4x12, but I do not like that EVH 2x12 at all.
I'd look at something like a Recto 2x12, Orange, Friedman, or Bogner OS 2x12

The price on the used marked for them was definitely a factor, and there's a ton of them out there. Kinda surprising because the EVH 4x12 is so well regarded. Looking ahead for wet cabs in a w/d/w setup. If going the more expensive way the CAA/Suhr(to match my 4x12), or Friedman(to match my amp) was the ones I was lookin' at.....Another thing is I don't really care for v30s and it's a PITA to buy a cab just to have to change out the speakers and unload ones I don't like. The splawn 2x12 is also one I considered.

I'm also considering a pair of 1x12 cabs instead of 2 2x12s as the wet cabs too. Lots to think about.

Again, thank you!

OK, so now this changes things a bit.
If you are going to run them paired with a 4x12 in WDW setup, they could work OK. The extra brightness could add some clarity to the FX, and you will be able to balance the levels against the dry 4x12. They won't be your main tone on their own.
If your setup will allow you to EQ the wet amp tone, then even better.

I actually really dig the H30 anni's when paired with other speakers in a 4x12. I have one cab with 2x EVH greenbacks and 2x anni's, and a cab with 2x V30's and 2 x anni's.
Now that we know what the plan is, it's probably worth a shot to pick up a cab or 2 used and try it out. As long as you get a good deal you can always flip them and not loose anything.

And the EVH 4x12 is certainly well regarded, because they sound really good. The cab itself is OK, but nothing special.
Those greenbacks though..
And the crazy thing is you can buy a used EVH 4x12 significantly cheaper than buying the 4 speakers new from Celestion.
I have 2 empty EVH 4x12's in my garage.

LOL @ the empty EVH thing    Thank you for the comments man

Yes the main tone comes from the cab in the pics below, which I LOVE(Suhr/CAA 4x12 when he was doing 60's marshall style and dovetails). Man is the EVH 2x12cabinet itself really shit? Have you tried the 2x12 with the evh speakers in there just to hear if the cab is ok? I bet you're right it would work nicely....the clean SS power amp I'm considering actually does have eq controls so that's a factor....but it would be nice to know if the cab itself down the road if I put some scumback 65 watters in there would rock...but if it's shit..that's a shame.....getting a 2x12 cab that would sound good on it's own for quick grab and go jams is a factor to me. Man, again...thanks for commenting

Ooooh, that's a nice rig in the pic
My 2015 BE100 is my Desert Island Amp. The older BE's are the best ones.

You might want to consider adding the structure switch. It's a cool feature that allows you to get those Plexi style lower gain tones.
***Just be very clear to whoever is doing the work that you only want the structure switch mod, and no other alleged " upgrades" . The Filtering scheme and the Mallory caps is why your amp sounds like it does. Don't Fuk with it :D
The newer ones with the Synergy caps and stiffer filtering sound different, and I'm not sure it's better

So I have no reason to think the EVH 2x12 cab itself is shit. It is well made with quality wood.
My thinking is that they just picked the wrong speakers for the cab. The G12H30 has an extended low frequency response, and the EVH cab is just too small for that speaker.
I've never swapped speakers in the EVH 2x12, but I suspect it would probably sound OK with greenbacks or 65M Creambacks. Ya know, like, speakers that don't have a huge low frequency response ( that the cab can't reproduce because of it's size ), and are not too bright ( because there won't be any bottom end to balance it out )

Thanks very much!
We're very like minded on the BE100....I agree, I LOVE it how it sounds and I'm not going to fuck with those caps or the filtering. LOVE the tone a feel of this amp! I appreciate the suggestion about the S switch, I'm trying to not get tempted by it because I'm pretty much stuck on 80's on steroids high gainer tones with it anyway...I doubt it would ever leave the highest gain mode(and I'm scared of couriers destroying the amp).

The ONLY thing that makes me want to send it in is for a depth mod pot but even then it's preset at a pretty good spot I think. I'm leaving it alone. This was a 2014 model right before he switched to the black board(it's the red board model that had all of the options except for the S switch). I LOVE the way it sounds as is....if it weren't for that adjustable depth I'd never be tempted by the new stuff(I AGREE with you). I'm with ya, I've found my tone with this amp....not messing with it!

Thanks for the comments on the cab....a lot to consider, will take your suggestions to heart. Thanks so much man(thank you too PBGas!)
