what does the Suhr SSV pickup compare with?does it sound like a duncan 59?

I didn't have a chance to directly a/b it with anything similar, but I had one for a short while in a Suhr S1 one and thought it was a great sounding low-output bucker. Really great.

The SSV is a good pickup but no better than any of the other crazy high end boutique PAF type pickups you have already tried like the Voodoo's and the Holmes. There's only so many ways to make that same PAF type recipe you know? Me personally... I have found myself enjoying my Peacemaker and my Super Leads much better with a slightly higher output pickup like the 9k Duncan '78 and the 10.5k Duncan Custom/59 hybrid. Heck, even the Duncan Custom 5 has been sounding cool for me. I'm not necessarily DONE with true PAf output type pickups, but I have found that a little more output in my pickup has really livened up my tone and the feel of the guitar. The notes WANT to come out now instead of me really having to try and bully them into sounding right.

YMMV

Yes, it does. Does it sound better than the $300 handwound Holmes H455 and $160 handwound Voodoo '59 that Stan has already owned and will be comparing it to? Does it sound better than the High Order pickups that Stan has custom wound to his exact specs? He didn't mention them, but Stan has been through every killer PAF clone out there. The Suhr is probably not going to just stand head and shoulders above the rest. It's a good sounding pickup. They all have been.

I thought you were done searching Stan? You were NAILING your desired tone months ago.

It's a good sounding, smooth PAF type pickup but it was definitely over to the sterile more modern sounding side of things for me.
