How Loud is a Framus Cobra?

Just wondering,

How loud does a typical Framus Cobra get?

Been dealing with getting my Cobra worked on, and it just doesn't seem punchy or loud enough, especially on ch.2 or 3....so wondering just how loud these amps are supposed to be? It's a 100 Watt head, but seems only loud fully cranked...

Thoughts?

Settings?

I bought mine used and it came with really old tubes. It sounded bad but it was still loud. Changed the tubes and now it sounds better and maybe a little louder, but the thing was still plenty loud with the old tube. Not as loud as my Splawn with KT88s but loud none the less.

The one I made a video of could barely keep up with a band. Channels 2 & 3 were really quiet. Clean channel was insanely loud. I have heard of resistors around the tube sockets burning out and causing this issue but the amp I played was taken into a tech and given a clean bill of health.

That is weird I played mine gigged mine this past Friday. Do you happen to know if the difference being old (no test points) vs new models?

I owned a V5 Cobra it was very loud, aggressive, and punchy. I would say it is just as loud as a Mesa dual rectifier which are very loud amps also.

No I don't. The one I played was a newer one with test points.

where's your effects mix knob set?

when i had one that would affect volume, might be the culprit, otherwise seemed loud enough to me

I had an original model back in '04 which sounded GREAT, but the overall volume was a bit underwhelming compared to the 5150's, Bogners, and Marshalls I was competing against. A year or two later I bought another which sounded considerably louder, but was thin, bright and nasty in the worst way. They were both brand new. This leads me to believe there's not a lot of consistency coming out of the Warwick factory. Not sure what's responsible for the variable volume levels, though.

I can tell you that you have to set the channel volumes on the cobra high for the gain channels, like around 2:00-3:00
I know some of you weren't doing that so give that a try.

Yep. Straight up.

Also, Master and Volume on 2&3 cranked.

It's loud, just not as loud as other amps I'm used to if seems.

You take the channel volume on both gain channels and you DIME THEM! Turn until the knob quits turning to the right! The Cobra is a fizzy mess with the channel volume at even 9/10, but 10/10 and it clears up considerably and RIPS.

so far, i have had two of them with this same problem. the third one i ALMOST bought had the same problem upon testing. the craigslist seller (good dude, knew it had a problem and told me about it before he brought it over) took it to a new local tech who found the above said resistors on the bottom of the sockets burned out. they were replaced and the amp now rips, loud as hell. but alas, he wont sell it to me now.

gave up on owning a framus cobra. they sound KILLER when biased hot, and that will melt the resistors.

How hot are you biasing the amp to melt resistors?
The cobra only needs to be biased to 60% of max dissapation to sound great.
I've found that too negative of a setting just.smears the sounds when coupled with the massive amount of preamp gain.
