I know this answer varies but what do most heavy bands do? When reamping how many diff guitar amps are used ? Ready to reamp n just trying new ways from the old.

Gtr1 2tracks (2diff mics on cab one take)
Gtr2 2tracks ( " )
Gtr 3 (doubled tracked) secondaries/harmonies/octaves

Pretty heavy music i.e.(testament,devildriver,lamb of god, killswitch engage)

Tnx

Are you asking about specific amps? Or the method in which they are blended

How Kant diff ones like track one gets a marshall track 2 gets a Mesa so on so forth ?

Or do they use one head for main tracks n a diff one for others?

Ask 100 bands/producers and you'll get 100 different answers.

Did you type that on your phone while trying to drive? lol

I am currently experimenting by blending two heads together. I use two mics and one cab. I record two takes(one for each side) with one amp, then two(one per side again) with the other. I've been panning one amp hard LR and the other about 60%LR. If all of the tracks are tight and everything is in phase, it should sound good. Some people will use a different EQ or add a boost to one side, just something slightly different to make it sound wider, i haven't been able to figure out how to do this right though.

For lead I will just record one take and use a REALLY short delay, with the dry signal panned to one side and the delay panned to the other, to widen it up.

I am a total novice and I don't know if that helps

More importantly. Do they switch them up on diff songs on the same album. Or is it same formula for every song ?

It's all subjective

i personally like it, in metal, when there is a consistent rhythm tone throughout the album.

Lead/clean though, whatever the song calls for

Usually two different amps to get a blend. Everythings reamped in any real studio usually but from what ive seen two amps that together fill in a wider tonal spectrum.

Yes we are re amping all.

Mesa Ra 100
Diezel Herbert
PRS Archon
Laney Ironheart
Carvin v3

Herbert and RA should sound killer together.

We're blending Herbert and Pitbull and the sound is utterly crushing.

I'm really going to push the archon it's an amazing amp. One of the best on the market !

I'd like to hear that, lately I've been blending a pittbull with a triple rec. it sounds awesome

I explained here how we tracked.

But do bands change it up song to song on same album or is it same tone straight thru ?

Say fast songs get one sound then tweak for slower heavy ones n dark moody ones get another vibe ?

I read where some bands do change tones for different tracks. So I'm sure some do and some don't.

Yea for diff feelings of the song. I'm not talking blowing it out in left field but dark heavy slow tune vs fast heavy vs med heavy.

Yep. For instance, I generally hate Rectifiers. They are sludgy and track slow IMO. BUT, for a slower/medium paced song with a chorus that has some simple chording, adding in a Rectifier for the choruses can sound thick as hell. There are no rules. Experiment and have fun! If it sounds good, IT IS good!

Cujo, to my ears most bands use the same amps the whole album.

However to my ears it sounds like the Latest Lamb of God has different tones for each song.

I honestly do not like that approach but to each their own.

I also think that 2 seperate amps for the 2 guitarists is better but the amps have to blend well.

The last time I did that I used a VHT 100cl Pitbull and a Bogner Uberschall and they sounded amazing together.

However I have also used the same VHT with a different amp and it sounded like shit.

You can (as previously mentioned in another post) use the same amp, use different guitars, settings, eq and get good results.

Im not much of a producer but one thing I have learned is that nothing is set in stone.

Yes, there are basic guidelines to follow but you can do whatever you want to acheive hopefully good results.
