How many guitars do you usually bring to a gig? Usually, I bring 2, my main and a backup. I guess if you play in multiple different tunings you'd really need multiple guitars...but I've been seeing a lot of guys bringing 7 or 8 guitars to a gig, and only using 1. I'm sure you are proud of your expensive guitar collection friend, but do you really need to bring them ALL?

*end mini rant* :D

2...a main, a backup. But I also bring a doubleneck ovation for one song.

Out of town...2
In town with the Country band 6, 3 different tunings with back ups, with the Fusion band 2 fretted and a fretless.

4 because my stand hold that many   and we play 4 to 5 sets a night,

I bring 3, the other guitarist usually only brings one, so I kind of have his backup.

I bring a strat and les Paul that I switch between ocasionally and then another strat in drop D. I try not to switch more than once mid set and it usually just takes me second.

I posted a thread like this a while back and commented then that its interesting we concentrate on the small differences between similar guitars and major differences between very different guitars (ie Les Paul and strat) and yet most people use one all night....

usually just 2. a strat and my partsocaster as a backup. never can tell when you'll break a string. :D

A Strat and a Les Paul - one each. I just hope the singer gives me the time to do the different tunings. When he drinks to much he thinks I can do any song in any tunning right now.

2. Mine are all similar enough that I can pull anything off with any of them. If I'm bringing a fixed bridge, I'll try to clump the whammy songs together when I'm using a different guitar.

Depends on the gig. If I'm doing one where we play in four different tunings (E, drop D, Eb, Drop Db) then at least four, sometimes five.

Other band plays everything tuned down 1/2 step, on that one I take three - some sort of strat, a PRS or Gibson, and a superstrat with floyd.

i always carry two. one main and one backup.
in all my years of playing out, about 9, i've never once broken a string live. but it's always there ready to go.

I bring 7 because we do songs in 5 different tunings and I have a backup for each of the two main tunings.

2.

I have a 3rd one that I've been working into songs but can't seem to want to deal with it whenever a gig night shows up. That 3rd one coming along makes me feel like I have too much precious cargo with me.

really??? broken twice on me!

Since my brain can only handle one tuning I bring two guitars...the 2nd for backup.

I used to bring 1 electric 6 string, 1 acoustic 6 string and 1 electric 12 string. Lately since my 12 string died I just take 2 and do switch up depending on the song. For acoustic gigs I take my 2 Martins and warm up with the D-15 but play the set on the 68 D-18.

I'd bring three guitars, Two seven (one which is string thru) and a six string. All in the same tunning (Eb or D that is), of course.

If I wanted to flash I'd bring all my axes and some friend's
