I do this about every 6 months or so.
I am not compulsive about the 0nce a month thingy....

I like them Broken in. ;)

'how ofter' ???

give me a break the 'r' is nowhere near the 'n' ...good drugz

When more than one breaks then I change them!

Depends on how much I play the guitar, i used to change my guitars once a month or when they sounded kinda dead. Now I have alot more guitars so I don't change them as often because some guitars don't get played as much and it cost alot to change every guitar, also takes me a while too.
My guitars I play the most get changed once a month still and I try to rotate them so all guitars get played. Last month I put away about 6 of the guitars I keep out all the time and switched things up for a few months. I will need to Restring them soon I guess.

Hey I had a poor educashun...... give me some slack!

Fixed! :D

I replace my strings when they start to sound totally dead...My Loomis is just about due.
Lately it's been sounding like a fretless bass w/ flatwounds.

as soon as they show any discoloration or rusting. i wipe them down after i play so they last longer but it never fails that the G string around the 12-14th gets all funky and rusty first.

I'd say every 10 hours. I change my strings roughly every 4 shows.

Yup...every 6 to 10 hours of playing. It depends how much booze you spill on them too! That changes everything. :D

It never fails, 4 shows is all I get. If I try to squeeze a 5th show out of them I break a string on stage.

Whipping down your strings after you play really helps maximize string life. For me its about 1-3 months, but I have enough guitars that I rotate alot. I am now trying to keep track of when I change strings so I know. Its one of those things I tend to put off.

On an interesting note, I have had my Ric 360/12 since 2003, took it in for a setup once and they replaced the strings. I have never actually restrung it. Kind of dreading it actually. I seem to play it off and on in spurts...

And you have such awesome tone!
Do you change them that often for tone or to prevent breakage?
I am sure its different from you doing real gigs to me just messing around in the garage. :D

I used to have to change them pretty much once a week. The humidity in FL and the mount I play, rust would start forming on the 3rd-4th day.

ever since I started using Elixirs.... I'm still going strong on this set that I've had for a few months!!!
