Seems the next day some strings go flat and i have to usually retune everyday on my LP Classic. Any tips on making it hold tuning for more than a day :D

Assuming you're already stretching the piss out of the strings, make sure the nut is properly cut and lubed.

Install either a robo tuner or locking nut like Gibson has done this year

How do you store it? In the case? On a stand? If it's on a stand, front facing, try turning it around for a few days... sounds nuts but I notice with my Classic every so often I need to turn it around for a few days. Otherwise its like the neck gives a little and the action feels a tad higher and it doesn't hold tuning as well..

Also, how old is it? Seemed like it took mine a while being played everyday until it "got used" to holding it's tuning...

I usually put it on a stand, its one of those multi guitar stands so it sits on its side. Sometimes it's on a regular guitar stand. It's a 07 LP classic, I bought it used, but never swapped out the strings. How do you do that lead pencil method someone mentioned, i think you file some into the nut? Maybe I'll try a restring and do that.

I add some graphite to the nut on all my guitars.

I don't do this on my les Paul's but you can wrap the strings around the tail piece, this supposedly helps.

Thump should have some tips and tricks, hopefully he responds....

Oh yea, that makes me want to buy a Gibson real bad.

Easy answer, Install a set of Sperzel locking tuners. Problem solved.

How easy is swapping out tuners? Also how much would a set of Sperzel's cost?

I was really hoping for solutions that don't cost any money though :D

So you tune it, play it for awhile and it stays in tune but when you set it down and pick it up the next day it is out of tune?

Or does it go out of tune after playing it for a little while?

Sperzels arent a direct swap without some very small drilling.. i had to drill out the headstock on my R7 Goldtop LP to get the Sperzels to fit.

I cant remember if it was Schallers or Grovers that fit without needing to drill. Im sure someone here will know!

have you had it setup by a pro tech?

my tech did mine when i got it and it's been fine ever since
no tuning problems at all... and i play in a strange tuning

les pauls are very climate effected, the difference of temperature in the room, up and down is doing it, just tune it everyday, when I have a gig, if my les pauls aren't out sitting for at least an hour before, it won't stay in tune to well, until it adjusts to the room temperature, then it holds it tune great

Sell it and buy a PRS.

I've never owned a LP that would stay in tune. My PRS rarely go out of tune.

Yeah its starting to drive me nuts! All my other guitars need to be retuned once a month or something

What PRS has a neck profile similar to the 60's slim tapered neck?
