How to test a repaired pup?

The mailman gave me a Duncan distortion years ago and it only had about two inches of lead on it. I had some spare wire and so I soldered on to it to give me some length to use it possibly. Is there a way to test it without installing it? When I checked it I was getting tone on my ground but nothing on the output.
