hey guys new here and new to tube amps i have a amp head that as a master volume and a channel volume.. my question is which one do i turn up more?? or do i keep them both the same?? or turn one up more than the other..

another question is anyone around here familiar with the digitech tsr-12 multi effects processor???

If you can crank it try this. I like to turn up the master to 7-8 then bring in the channel volume to around 2-3 and push the amp with some sort of OD/Distortion. The power section will be running hot and give that, "wide open, percussive feel". If you're a basement hero, do the opposite. Turn the master down and crank the channel volume up to get the pre amp section cooking but without blowing your ears out.

What amp is it? I would just do what sounds best to you, try either variation, but I usually set one higher than the other. I remember a Framus Cobra that I previously owned needed the ch. volume high regardless of overall volume or else it sounded thin.

Good call. I forgot to mention that. My rule of thumb is always suit it to taste. By the way, what amp is it?

I prefer master higher than channel with most all amps having that option. Basement and stage volumes.

its a peavey ultra plus and i for got to say i also use a digitech tsr 12 multi effects unit that has an input and output knobs on the front.. which controls the volume has well were should i set the input/output on the effects unit.. so im going to try the master crank to 7-8 and use the channel volume to adjust to taste.. or can i put channel volume on 2-3 and use the input/output to adjust to taste?? all these knobs are so confusing... LOL

I set the channel volumes and use the master for overall volune. Works well on my Ultra Plus. Now my single rec definitely gets the master turned up and I use the channels for overall volume. Sounds much bigger that way.

Virtually all amps sound and behave different with overall master up/channel master down & vice versa.
