How was music recorded between 1920-1959?

I have to write an essay on this subject and it's something that I'm not finding very easy to find information on, any info any of you could provide me would be very useful. :)

Or feel free to discuss the advancements of music technology amongst yourseves.

Tape recorders have been used since the 30s and I think they were produced even more during ww2, then after ww2 and they had all these tape recorders around people started to experiment with that stuff

^- earliest form of "electronic" music probably all of the techniques used to record that were known by 1949ish were used id bet.

edit: pre tape recorders i think was shellac discs
