Huey Lewis and the news 1985 Rock Am Ring

They’re like $100k and expenses for a gig. Best wedding reception band ever.

Did @Techdeth put on a rain poncho and line the floor with newspaper?

They're okay.

After their 1980’s heyday, they really missed out on the lucrative faith based music market by not rebranding themselves Huey Leviticus and the Good News

depending on which faith direction they'd be leaning, it could've been Jew-y Levitz and He-brews.

If you ever want to truly appreciate how far modern poop music has moved into dumbed down, go listen to 80s pop. The musicianship was off the charts. Song writing was top notch. Even if you didn't like a song, you couldn't say it was because of poor musicianship.
Yeah, +1
I was never a big fan of this style of 80's music, but as a wanna be muso at that time, there was no denying the talent, songwriting and musicianship that went into creating a lot of the hits in that time period.

Huey is an interesting dude, his first band Clover used to open for and pal around with Thin Lizzy. He and Phil Lynott became good friends in which Phil kinda became his mentor. Huey also jammed with them live many times. Clover's first two albums were produced by a young Mutt Lange.

Huey and the band would eventually start helping with what was supposed to be Lynott's third solo album in '85 but drugs had taken their toll and Phil passed.

Here's a picture of Clover with Huey on the far left with the stache and John McFee of Doobie Brother fame on the right. Some of the band would go onto form Huey Lewis and the news and the lead singer of Clover wrote the hit 867-5309/ Jenny, and several other hits for Huey Lewis, Pat Benatar and others. Clover also did all the music for Elvis Costello's debut album as well.

Bottom line is by the time Huey Lewis and the News hit, most of them were very seasoned musicians and why they sound as good as they do.

Their early work was a little too “new wave” for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a BIG boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

It was only a matter of time 😉

I'm not ashamed to admit Sports & Fore! are two of my all-time favorite albums.

Always have and always will love their music. I really regret never seeing them live.
