Anyone own a H&K? The triamps used to get love but now a days you just don't hear aything about them

Had a new MK II real noisy and hi fi sounding.
Guys round here like good gain light noise:)

This baffles me as well--I have three H&K:

TriAmp MK II--Extremely versatile & great sounding--truly like having three amps in one--best of Marshall, Mesa, and its own flavor.

Trilogy--TriAmp's little brother--Great sound, MIDI on-board, Best of Marshall crunch, Mesa High-gain, & Fender cleans.

Switchblade 100C--Awesome all-in-one gigging combo--effects aren't "world-class" but they'll do in a pinch, amp tones are great--four channels plus a MIDI-learnable boost on each channel, super cleans to punishing gain.

Don't have any noise problems worse than any other high-gain monster.

Thinking of picking up a Tubemeister 18... Seems H&K are like ENGL--you either love them or hate them. They get my vote--I'll Take a Trilogy or TriAmp MK II over a JVM every time.

good amps imo with decent features and good tone but horrible resell value - and i like neon blue in films like tron not on an amp =)

Love my TriAmp Mk I. It's been my only amp for the past four years. I don't find it to be any noisier than any other high gain head. Would love to get a Mk II one day.

I had a Tube 100 and I could get THE Metallic one with it. Later got a Triamp Mk II with a malfunctioning mode (when 2A & 3A were the same). I sold it while it was at the tech. When I got it back I TOTALLY REGRETTED selling it and would not have had I not given my word to the buyer!

the resell is one reason I always found myself holding off. And you rarely see them on the market these days.

the Lifeson model looks nice but don't need that extra price sticker for a name. I think the MKII is the flagship for them.

well i usually try and buy everything used, i bought a h&k statesman new when it came out, cool amp, with pretty much exactly the features i wanted

sounded pretty good, but as things go i sort of migrated towards other kinds of tones, eventually settling on a pedalboard through a hiwatt that is yet to be dethroned in terms of flexibility and tone =0

i lost 70% of it's value while reselling it =( didn't help that H&K slashed 20% off the new price the following year, but that's how it goes

IMHO the MKII was noisy but sounded good ,,but real hard to dial in if I was just going to use the light dirt it would have been great but fo 2500.00 I better like at least 90% of the amp.. I also had the hnk cab with greenies so that could have made a diff in the sound. Still have the cab miss the amp for versitality but like the others I have now more..Plus i'm a tube freak and an amp with 9 pre's was heaven lol.

Just played with a 14 year old over the weekend who said he had a H&K Switchblade at home. I was surprised, #1 that he knew enough about gear to know about H&K (He is a Rush fan though), and #2 that he is able to afford such at nice amp at 14.

Anyway, I hope he lets me try it out in the future. I have never even seen an H&K amp in person.

Hey, a 14 year old rush fan, thats pretty cool! Glad to hear kids are still into prog rock.

There's a MK II at my local GC that I've played several times and have heard several other people play through that sounds killer....but GC wants over $3K for it. Not a chance!

I bought a MkII perfect condition for 1000€ and at that price it's a great amp. It gives loads of versatility and midi and has a perfect functioning Master and Loop.

However, while it does 6 different sounds, they are all a bit of a compromise in my opinion. None of the 6 blew me away.
But for a top 40 job it's a great tool. My band mates actually liked it much better than I ever did.

I had a few Splooge & Wettners...

The Swithcblade was not bad and the Lifeson was pretty monster... pricy though.

G.

I had a MKII and didn't like it at all. Way to processed and scooped sounding for any of the gain settings (even with the mids dimed).

Was a big H&K guy way back.
Started with an ATS 120.
Went to a, Axxess (or was it Access?) preamp
Then had a Tube 50 back in the day and it was great.
Miss that amp alot.
Still have my original Red box.. ;o)

A Switchblade 100 on a 4x12 is my main rig right now. It's versatile (especially for cover band use), covers everything from clean to high-gain respectably, has decent on-board effects and MIDI functions, a quality footswitch and can get "arena loud" if needed. It has a unique tone that not everyone will appreciate, but I like the grind. The cleans are superb with a little delay mixed in and the headroom is ridiculous.

Given that, I've never understood the lack of respect. It may not be a thoroughbred in any one area, but it's damn sure a workhorse that more than cover's 95% of what I need for bar band gigs...

I have a switchblade 100 w head for 3 years now and like it a lot. It's like said, great tones but bad resell value.

However, the more amps I play, the more I want to keep my switchblade. The functionality and tone are just unmatched by others. So I don't worry about resell because I plan to keep mine.

ive owned most of the H&K Tube line ( Triamp, Triamp MKII, Duotone & Puretone)

They are great amps. MKI Triamp by far my fav. and most reliable. The blue face is cool...but if they break watch out. Problems galore. Hence why i got rid of them. Shoulda kept the MKI. was super versatile & great in studio..and live!!!
