Does it sound good in front of a marshall type amp that is breaking up or is up around 5 or 6 and has mid gain distortion?

I will be completely honest, I loved the Replex for what it is but NO delay I owned or own including my real Echoplex sounds good in front of an amp distorting. The only time my delays sound good in front of an amp is if it is set clean with a boost in front of the delay. I know there are some that say that's the way it was done in the old days, Echoplex in front of a Marshall, I still think it sounds like shit unless it's "just barely on".
So then... what are you gonna do with the badgerplex and el capistan? Loop? line out to them and another amp W/D? I mean, ya didn't buy 'em for clean tones didja?

I agree 100% I cannot stand a delay in front of distortion.
And the Replex is a pretty cool pedal!

You bet I bought them for clean tones, in to the Fender, I bought so many pedals once I started getting back into clean playing again. When or if I need delay from the Marshall, that goes wet to another cab, I sometimes even run it into the return of my Fender combo, "just barely on". Also, I've been getting really cool results by taking a line out of the attenuator and running that into my DAW using the gazillion different plug-ins I have, set 100% wet, including Soundtoys Echoboy. The Fender combo does have a loop but I don't use it much.
So, if you wanted echoplex like delay with your distorted Marshall and you weren't recording, you'd put the badgerplex in front of the amp and take the lineout from the attenuator into the el capistan into another amp/cab, right? When I had my PeaceMaker and Replex, I did my rig similarly - line out from my attenuator into replex into power amp/cab... sounded great. would goose it up front with an OCD or something else...

One thing I never quite understood:
did EVH send a line out to his echoplex live?
or was it into the front?

Brian May, same question? (back in the 70s)

exactly, except the Replex never did 100% wet, I had to have it modified for that. El Capistan does do 100% wet which is cool, much more tonal shaping capabilities as well.
Nice, thx man - I'm looking forward to grabbing these and checking them out...
