OPINIONS?

Background on this.... I'm looking for a 2 channel, w/ some F/X, small tube combo, that sounds good for home practice and cranks enough for band practice. I'm drawn to these 2 amps because of their size and features. I've ruled out most everything else because of personal preference, features, price, etc...

I'm looking at the 1x12 combos. I have played through an Alchemist and really liked it. There is no local H&K dealer where I can try a Switchblade so I can't really compare them.

I like the full, warm, mid-range tone of the Alchemist. Plus the gain character and sensitivity. I have no idea how the sound of the Switchblade compares.

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK.

I've never played either (Minnesota has nothing good), but I've heard nothing but amazing things about the Switchblade.

It really boils down to how much gain you are looking to get from the amp. I'd say H&K in either case, but if you are looking for a high gainer, then there is no contest. The Switchblade wins hands down.

The gain level on the Alchemist meets my needs. I'm more concerned about whether the Switchblade has a comparable level of warmth, sustain, and a bold / overdrive gain character. If the gain is buzzy at all or the amp tone lacks in warmth and sustain, then I'm not interested.

Havent played the H&K but just got an Alchemist head and 2x12 that I really like.

Question for you then... is the boost feature only accessible via the footswitch or is there a switch on the amp? I can't remember.

On the amp and footswitch.
