Humbucker - Bridge

I have a Suhr Pro Series that has a SSV in the bridge. I see that Suhr uses A5 magnets for most of his humbuckers.

I am looking for something a little hotter than the SSV, but still maintains an open clarity and can split decent. I see quite a few pickups that use A2 magnets in the slightly hotter PAF pickups. Like the Motor City Blackbelt + and the Duncan '78.

I really like the sounds of the pickups that Friedman and Grover are using in the new Friedman guitars, but they don't sell them alone and I am not sure what they are output or magnet wise.

jave you considered the Thornbucker +. It uses an Alnico IV which is a good balance between a2 and 5 and hot ther than the SSV
 
That is definitely one that I have been checking out. Suhrs, Motor City, Arcane possibly and the Duncan 78.

How much more does the SSV+ have in it? Is it any darker?

The SSV is a cool pickup, but it is almost like playing thru a single coil with more power. I have an SSH+ in another Suhr and that one is too hot for what I do. I need to change that guitar out as well with something with less gain. I don't mind both guitars being the same bridge humbucker if I can find the right one.

Let me know a little more about the SSV+ if you have any thoughts on it versus the SSV.

If you like the SSV, the SSV+ is just more of it. Hits the amp a little harder. I wouldn't call it a darker pickup. It's voiced very similar to the SSV.

Was literally scrolling down to say that. I replaced the duncan ‘78 in an Sg and it killed it.
 
I know Friedman's first couple models of guitars were using the Motor City Pups. I think something custom based around the 2nd Degree Black Belt. MC does not show what the output ratings are on their pickups. How hot is the Detroiter?

Here is what I am thinking after a little reading:

Either a Suhr SSV+ or straight up SSH

Arcane Brownbucker

Motor City: 2nd Degree Black Belt or now I'll throw in the Detroiter.

I always dig the tone in the NAMM videos where Doug Rapporot is using Friedman or Luxxtone guitars. Whatever pickups are typically in the guitars he grabs for those vids is about the right juice, articulation and nice clean up. (Amp helps obviously)
