I got my fu-tone blocks in and love them in my Charvels. Now my top two Jacksons aren't cutting it.

I know that I can get a gotoh Floyd block from fu-tone, but my other Jackson has a 80's Charvel branded Floyd, I love it. But I don't know if it is OFR or Schaller or if they are any different. Is there a way to know without taking it apart?

I will call them in the morning. But damn. I am spoiled now. Lol. I have 5 more Jacksons with gotoha, and won't upgrade them all, just thinking that my DK2M and DKMG NEED a big brass block.

I was skeptical initially but now I am sold. Lol. FML. LMAO.

What do you guys think?

I think if you like ‘em, keep going
For me, they were the emperor’s wardrobe

Yeah, you can tell if it´s a licensed Schaller or a OFR just by looking at it, actually. But if it says Charvel it´s a licensed Schaller, the OFR never came as OEM hardware like that. Either way almost all parts fit both a licensed Schaller and a OFR.

If it works for you then all good. That is all that matters. I have left my blocks stock as I didn’t like the bigger brass upgrade. The stock Floyd blocks are brass. I’m looking at the titanium blocks myself.

Schaller floyds have a cast baseplate; it's easy to tell one apart from an OFR just by looking as Dave L mentioned

I'm hardly a pro on the matter as I've made the determination years ago I am simply a "NON-TREM" guitar guy - period.

Les Pauls only - period.

However, in my days of playing around, I loved the ESP Horizons, of which a couple of mine were the FR-II models (or something like that?). Spending more time online and gassing for the thrill of buying than actually putting my efforts into playing, I bought all kinds of shit. But I remember getting the FU-BBB upgrades for 2 of my OFR loaded guitars; and honestly the tone was VERY different - different character, different "chunkiness", better sustain. I noticed it mostly on recordings A/B'd - not so much whilst playing.

There is something to be said about them. If I were an aficionado on "all things whammy" I'd say more, but I'm not so I won't.

They make a definite difference over stock - whether that difference is a plus or a minus is up to the owners' ears.

Dude, a tad off topic but my Mexican Charvel is the only thing I've played for weeks. I can't get enough of the damn thing! I just finished my third recording with it and just sounds and feels killer. It has the JB in the bridge but then has a nice bluesy single coil in the neck that I like better than my USA Clapton Strat.

I'm going thru a Charvel G.A.S. phase again and I'm worried. Like Ventura said above, I'm a big Les Paul dude but Charvel guitars have been in my blood since high school in the early to mid-80s. Charvels are like my Les Pauls. I pick up a San Dimas one, regardless of where it is made, and just feels like a comfortable pair of shoes.
