So with all of the guitars that I've owned over the years, I never did my own wiring. I really like the playability of my deluxe players strat, but I can't stand not having a bridge Humbucker.

I decided to take a gamble and spend 50 bucks on a dragon fire pre-wire pickguard assembly

I spent a few more dollars for a soldering iron and a wire stripper.

I got the pickguard today. It took me two hours and one slightly burned finger, but I think it looks great.

I only got to play the low volumes but so far so good. The neck pick up is actually Stratier than the Fender noiseless pickups that came with the guitar.

I'll try to crank her a bit more tomorrow.

Soldering is a pretty good skill to pick up, IMO. I've butchered some soldering jobs before when I was first learning...but luckily they were only for practice.

feels good doesn't it? saves you some cash in bench fees and a feeling of accomplishment. I love those players necks, I have one on an American body with a single humbucker at the bridge. Its my daily player

Awesome, I solder things often, they usually end up working for a whole, but there are usually huge clumpy blobs all over inside

You make me want to learn

Nice!

I looked up the Dragon fire, and I can't believe how inexpensive a loaded set is.

What is the difference between the Screamers and the Crusaders other than the large pole pieces on the Crusaders?
They claim either pup is 16.9K with ceramic mags, so pretty much each has the same output.

Screamers are more of a distortion style pup while the crusaders are like invaders

Once you start soldering you'll next want to check out shrink tubing. Love that stuff.

Soldering your own pups takes about as much time or less than hauling a guitar in to have it done. Every guitar player should learn how to solder. Comes in handy for all kinds of guitar related projects. You can save a bunch on speaker and guitar cables alone. A dedicated soldering station with adjustable heat is a must IMO.
