Since I got a little spending money the other day, I went out and bought more wood and the first load of soil today.
The concrete footers I used to build the perimeter accept 2x6s and are in a "+" pattern, so you can build something out any way you want. My original intent was to put pieces of 2x4 to space outward from the wall of 2x6s and attach cedar fence planks and make a sort of outer box that would cover up the concrete footers, any pea gravel I used to level the structure out, and cover up gap between the bottom board and ground since the ground isn't level, while also providing a bed of sorts to plant marigolds and other pest resistant plants. But with it being just me, and near constant wind up here, it was just too hard to do. So, I just cut the pieces of cedar plank to fill in the gap between the bottom board and ground on the inside, so the majority of the soil and water will be touching cedar instead of untreated pine. I got half the first load unloaded before I had to stop and take a little break and cool off. It'll probably take me 2 more trips. This is just screened topsoil to fill in the bulk. The final layer on top will be their grow mix with 50/50 soil and mushroom compost.
I'll tell you what, it felt GOOD standing in the truck bed with my toes in the dirt, or in the garden using a rake to spread out the soil. I can't wait to step into it in a few months and pick cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos, squash and zucchini, fresh thyme, etc.
