I totally forgot it was in there. It was a pickup I had pulled from an old parts superstrat I had. Just a white cheap body, chrome OFR, GFS zebra pickup in the bridge and a DiMarzio in the neck. Years ago, I took what I wanted, tossed the body and GFS pickup and it's been sitting in my tool box. I didn't even remember for a second where I got it from when I noticed it today, it took me a minute. I was like oh nice, a DiMarzio, cool....I can use it in a future build. Then I looked up the DP174 and turns out it's actually my favorite single coil! I loooooove the Red Velvet. I have one in the neck of my gold superstrat with the Evolution in the bridge. I usually play that guitar on just the neck pickup I like it so much. Now, I have another one, just waiting to go in something else. I just have to find a guitar now that needs a neck pickup and I'm good to go :)

Weren’t you looking for a neck humbucker for one of your guitars ? Just mount that single coil in a mounting ring and jam it in there.

I ended up buying a Duncan Quarter Pound....I have to have matching setups or it'd bug me to death. Plus the route in the guitar wouldn't have been big enough because of that extra tab on the bottom of DiMarzio single coils.

I use Duncan humbuckers or Aldrich’s pretty exclusively, but I favor DiMarzio singles pretty exclusively too, and almost always in the same guitar. A tech I know was able to make a recess at the bottom of the neck pickup route for me to be able to switch from a Duncan Quarter Pounder to a DiMarzio Virtual Heavy Blues in a Splawn super strat, you can’t see it from the face but it’s there and it works great.
