Hi guys, I got myself a YJM100 after a lot of adventures (I bought it internationally). This is my first tube amp. I had played guitar for six years and Im not a newbie by any means but I consider prudent and responsible to ask a question regarding the correct procedure to change between cabinets when I'll go to try and buy a 4x12. I'll buy a Marshall 1960 because I dont have others options in my country. But I dont know if I'll buy the A or B version, so I'll try both cabinets a couple of times and I'll compare. I need to ask this:

- What is the correct procedure for a tube amp to change between cabinets? is correct to do this? connect amp to cab, turn on amp, wait 60 sec min to warm the tubes with the stand by switch off, after that turn on volumes and start playing, when Im ready to try the other cabinet turn down volumes, turn off amp, change cab, turn on amp with volumes on 0, wait 60 sec min to warm the tubes again, turn on volumes and start playing and keep repeting the procedure until Im ready and decided for a cabinet model? or there is another safe way? (I dont have a clue about this).

I ask this question because I understand that valves are fragile things and I dont want to waste valve lifetime or damage them. I understand that I cant turn on or put in stand by the amp without a cabinet connected to the amp because is really really bad. I need to consider something or wait some time before turn on the amp after turning it off repeatedly? I hope that my question is explained clearly (english is not my native language). Let me know.

Thanks.

follow the same procedure as you do when turning the amp on as when you turn it off. make sure your amp is off when switching cabinets.

Thanks mate. What is that procedure for you? Im new into tube amps and I want to be 110% sure about every safe procedure in order to take care and prolong the life of the amp and the valves :)

Yes, you have it correct. Just remember to use a good speaker cable and match up the ohm rating from your amp to cab. But yes, turn the amp on and let it warm up, flip off standby and commence to rocking!!! You can swap cabs by just turning the amp to standby, but it's just safer to turn it off.

Thanks Buckeyedog for the information. I preffer to be 110% safe so I'll turn off the amp before change cab. One question: when you turn on the amp in what position the stand by switch needs to be? considering your answer I understand that you say that the Stand By needs to be in "On" position before turning the amp on? I said that for this part of your answer "turn the amp on and let it warm up, flip off standby and commence to rocking!!!" I know that the Stand By switch has the function to preserve the life of the valves and that you can use it when you stop playing but you dont want to turn off the amp. Please let me know if the Stand By switchs needs to be in the On or Off position when I turn on the amp. Thank you mate.

yeah, I know that about the Stand By switch but you dont answer my last question. However, what is going here? ok, I know that I will get some comments like that. Im an experimented player that with a lot of effort buy his first tube amp. Afortunately, Im smart guy and I have done my research (for months) about what tube amp buy. So I chose an excellent amp. After a lot of trouble I got a YJM100 because it was difficult to get it internationally. Now that I got it Im asking some "basic" questions because I want to preserve the life of the amp and the tubes. You know, there is not stupid questions, only stupid answers. Thats is all. Im not one of that guys that got a work that consumed his life and get a lot of money but he cant play guitar. Im a guitarist that after years of playing is getting what he deserves. Got it? I preffer to ask some basic questions considering that is my first tube amp that make a mistake with my sexy amp. If you will drive a Ferrari for first time I think you will ask some questions before run it at max speed. And if I make some mistakes in my english fuck it, is not my native language.

For 100% safety, be careful to lift the head from one cab to the other while those tubes are still hot. Put it down softly, as tubes are more fragile when they are heated up. If you use the cabs side by side and leave the head on there while switching the speaker cable, it's fine just to flip the amp on standby while swapping.

Thank you hunter for the information. I'll ask to have both cabs side by side. I think my question is answered, thanks for the useful information everybody. Now its time to have fun :).
