I guess sometimes less really is more...

So, I decided a few weeks back it was time for a change. Time to simplify substantially from what I was working with. This weekend I definitely realized it was a great decision.

I was originally running a rather extravegant rig with a GCX/GCP, 5 pedals etc and it was cool to have the flexibility... But I kept going back to two channels on the JVM, OD1 Orange Lead and Clean Green. I would pretty much stick to those two settings alone and began to realize that the rest of the amp was pretty useless to me (hence why I am trying to sell the JVM for something simpler)

So I decided to step away from the large road case, the GCX/Ground Control setup and strip way down... What I ended up with was something very simple that I don't have to touch ever.

This shelf sits in the back of my new SKB 6U rack, hidden from view. The plan is when I sell the JVM, to pick up a pair of clean 5150IIs. I like a little grit in my clean channel so the 5150s will be nice for that. I've had a few 5150s in the past so I pretty much know what to expect with them.

Figured I would show off the simplicity of the pedal setup now for the hell of it. I almost feel like due to less being in the signal chain overall, there is almost more clarity. Hopefully I can get the JVM sold before Tax Season comes around so I can pick up a couple 5150IIs or 6505+ heads.

Looks pretty simple.....sometimes you gotta give in to GAS to realize you don't need it...nice to have the flexibility but if you find you don't ever use it, what's the point of having all that mess in your chain?

What's the splitter box for? Going to run one head clean and the other on the Lead channel boosted? Pretty hyped for you...boosted 5150 is awesome.

i've got complex rack gear, and I've got stripped down "grab and go" setups, and I'm with you. I find myself reaching for my stripped down pedal board with a handful of pedals and foortswitch into one of my 2 channel head units for the bulk of my live work. I do love the stripped down simplicity of it all.

I've cut back a lot on my pedalboard also. Not as much as you have but, I'm getting there. I have less of a need for effects with stuff I play (my originals). However, that's out the window, if I'm trying to play some cover tunes with certain effects that you need to get the vibe of the song.

@Steinmetzify I plan to run both on LEAD most of the time as the stuff I am playing now is in the realm of Attila, The Acacia Strain etc. it will also allow me to, if i want to, record a dry signal direct into a board and still hear my actual guitar tone while recording and then go back and re-amp etc. It's a nice little unit and should be just what I need for what I want it to do. I saw no point in an A/B/Y switch since I don't intend on switching back and fourth.

If the JVM doesnt sell, I may get a 1960B cab and run that amp as a secondary rig for other stuff I like to play because it really does do a lot of cool stuff and i've gotten some amazing tones out of every channel. But for the majority of the music I play, it's just ridiculous overkill.

With the Road Case eliminated too, everything is a little more transportable without needing a large truck also haha

My "quick" pedal board looks like it has more than what it actually does. On that board, I've got my footswitch (with 2 loops - one active on clean, one active on dirty). In the loops, I have a Maxon OD808 and BOSS NS2 in the dirty loop and a chorus in the clean loop. So, the chorus is on for cleans, hit the switch and it goes to my dirty channel with the OD808/NS2. I've got my tuner and wah on there as well, with a phaser. It looks like a lot, but there's a good bit of utility pedals taking up real estate. In reality, all I do is change channels (changing my OD, chorus, NS2 with it) and then step on the phase or wah as needed/wanted.

My idea of a truly stripped down rig is an acoustic.

I play a Mesa Roadster straight into the amp and nothing in the loop. That is my "complicated" rig.

Roadsters are great heads. I thought about getting one but it's still more than I need. pair of 5150s would suit me well.
