It was not live threatening or anything but the gearwhore in me was struggling.
I had been hunting for a good Les Paul, played a bunch of Gibsons and found NONE that I liked. Over the last couple of months however, I played a number of Tokai Lesters that sounded and played amazing. 2 weeks ago, I visited a friend in Germany and he has some old Tokais and boy they blew me away. He told me to check out a guy in France who's always selling old Tokais. Checked the site and find one I really digged. So I was sure to buy it, send him an email but he was out of town so it took awhile before he got back to me.
Last Friday, I was looking up some thing on Ebay when I found an auction that really kicked my butt. Up for sale was one of the amps that's been in my top5 for many years now but that I always thought was to expensive to buy new: Guytron GT100. There it was, a new model GT100 FV in great condition at a killer price. My GAS for the Guytron skyrocketed.
So it was Guytron vs Les Paul, could not afford both so it was either one of them. After much agonizing and thinking, I realised that I already own 3 killer amps and really do not need the Guytron. A LP would be great for my blues/bluesrock gig and I should be ashamed being a Page/old Clapton fan, that I never owned one. So I bit the bullet, decided for the LP and saw the Guytron sell for dirt cheap at 1580 euro which is half it's new price.
Here's the Lester that will be on it's way to me soon: 1980 Tokai Love RocK LS80 in Teaburst
