Ladies and Gentlemen! I present you with a cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here." This is the first song I've ever mixed/mastered/produced on my own. All instruments were recorded by me, and all vocals were recorded by Jason Montilla! Please listen!....and if you like it, PLEASE SHARE IT! https://soundcloud.com/keith-labell-1/w ... -were-here

I've made the song downloadable, so feel free to listen to it on your favorite stereo/cans :)

I listened to this on SoundCloud the other day. It is awesome Keith! You are super talented.

That was very good . I enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys ! I definitely spent weeks on it. Next up is Billie Jean, finished the drums last night...working on the bass now.

Thanks again, everyone! I'll post the next cover as well, once it's done.

I liked it too... a lot of high end in the mix though and I am wondering all the nerdy technical info about how it was recorded such as:

Recording chain
Guitar mics
Real Drums with replacements or a drum program like EZ drummer etc..
vocal mic

Thanks!

Drums are me playing a Roland kit using Steven Slate Drums. Acoustic guitars are a Taylor, plugged in direct. Bass is me playing my MusicMan with an Ampeg SVX VST plugin. All electric guitars are used with my Kemper, direct via spdif. Orchestra sounds is me playing a Yamaha piano using Sample Tank.

Vocals is an expensive ass Neuman, not sure the model.....and I mixed it all in Cubase 7 using a variety of Waves, Steinberg, and T-Racks plugins. Mastered with T-Racks. So...nearly 100% digital would probably explain the high end.

who cares about the high end, still sounds great! I just noticed it is all

Since moving on to the next song I've managed to temper that high end (it's right around 2khz-ish). I've also gotten the drums to sound better/less wet. I'll eventually apply each new trick I find when mixing/mastering new songs to this song.

That sounded great! All instruments and singing are well done and mixed pretty good. Only thing I could critique is the distorted guitar tone, as the others mentioned, a little too much high end making them sound a bit shrill/thin. Other than that, sounds excellent.

Thanks everyone! The way I see it is, with each song I do...I'm getting the mix/individual instruments better. So, by the time I have enough cover songs to put out a free cd on iTunes, I'll be able to get them all as good as the latest song.

Everything is DI'd and reamped via Kemper anyways, so very easy to fix things.
