I recently bought an Ltd Exp 200 from a guitar store with EMG's. I have been reading all about these, the different years, how they transfered factories and what not. I have some questions that you guys can probably answer.

Two main threads I read on the Explorers

http://bbs.espguitars.com/showthread.php?t=7

The one I picked up seems to be an early one (I figure it's an early one from the things I have read about them)

It is a bolt on neck
it has the two dots at the twelfth fret instead of the bar saying LTD
It is pretty heavy and I read that if it is an early version, it is made from Alder

My main question is:

Was it made in Japan? I read over on one thread that the early version's of the EXP 200 were made in one of the Japanese factories.
I read that once the 200's got the block that said LTD on the twelfth fret, the bodies started being made from Mahogany.

Can any ESP and LTD gurus confirm this stuff? Any help is much appreciated! :D

I'm just stoked I got the guitar. I have been looking for one, for a long time! :)

Great guitar...I owned an early model, black LTD with EMG 81s. Alder wood, heavy...Tight, crunchy, percussive tone. Just a great guitar...ENJOY!!!

That's what this one is, I'm pretty sure! :P It has the original EMG's. I'm hoping it sounds great when I pick it up in two weeks :D

Meh, think you got screwed?

Better send it to me to verify authenticity! :D

Congrats man, would love to have one of those!

I think the set neck LTD MX130s were made in Japan. LTD bolt ons as far as I know was all Korea back then.

I just found out this particular guitar was owned by Allen West of Obituary. That's pretty awesome! :D
