Those Furmans really are the 80's secret eh? If you don't mind me asking, what mods are done to your JCM800 that you know of and how high was the presence knob? Zoom sounds like they have a winner with that little device.. can it be loaded on a mic stand? I'd be interested in capturing some of my drumming from bird's eye view.

I used my Zoom 4Hn last night to track and record about 4 hours worth of music. The clips are coming, but bottom line, I'm super impressed with the sound.

I love the furman paired with a good noise gate, boosting the front end of the JCM 800. Presence was at 9.5. I lost a bit of bass in the transfer to YouTube. The zoom unit was mounted to a mic stand, sitting approx 2 feet from the cab & 2 feet off of the ground. I pointed the camera up to get a shot of the head. The amp was set really quiet.

The amp originally belonged to 232cap, who posted a comment above. He performed all of the mods to the amp.

LEt's hear what you did to that amp 232! The least intrusive mod I have found and done on my JCM was the Levi #34 mod. I recently put it back to stock though.. always interested in hearing what work others have done. Those old furman units really impress me though.

Re-uploaded the video to YouTube & re-posted the link above. No bass loss this time.

Tweaking the zoom for the best possible recorded tone.

Wow, that sounded great! I am going to have to pick up one of these units. Loved the tone and playing.

I might be in the market soon, I'll look into this one. I've been hearing awesome things

Sounds great! This is the amp I just missed out on!

The thing I have to figure out is getting the amp loud enough that you can't hear me hitting the strings.

I haven't turned the amp up real loud to record yet. However, the zoom unit does have 3 mic "gain" settings for adjusting to the volume of the room; low, high and auto. I put the unit on auto for these clips.

Yes, the sound of the strings with a quiet amp is something I will try to get rid of on my next attempt.

I am amazed how well the zoom picks up the low thump of the cab to high pinch harmonics.

Definitely easy to get a "good" recorded tone without spending a lot of time positioning the unit.

Wow you have the amp dialed in, you have the 80's tones covered with room to spare. Your playing sounds great too, enjoy. Now I have to figure out why I sold it.

Put it in Low and blast away. There's a new application on the Zoom-site that let's you easily raise the volume of the clips and cut them before uploading. Works like a charm. If you set it in auto, it will compress loud volumes and that messes up the sound.
