I am using an OCD right now. It seems kind of gritty. Looking for something a little more smooth and saturated but with lots of gain. Under $200 preferably. Any advice?

I have a Wampler Triple Wreck and the amount of gain is sick.

It's quiet.

Sounds smooth on the vintage side and nasty of the modern side.

Pricey, but if you can find one used you can spend less than $200.

I have one as well. It makes any amp go to Triple Rectifier insane.

Not cheap, but a monster in a box.

You'll get a billion answers!

I like the Pigtronix Fat Drive a lot.....18v for more tone! :D

Himmelstrutz are very amplike. There are so many pedals out there.

what amp are you boosting? how much gain is needed? i didnt get along with the ocd when i tried it a few years ago, it seemed dry and gitty to me.. been using a maxon od808 for at least 4-5 years now and havent found anything i like better.

Just set up a rig with the Maxon820. It is an extremely transparent pedal and gives a nice warm smooth sounding tone

On the cheap, you can get a Joyo US Dream. Its a $50 copy of a Suhr Riot.

How about a BIg Muff?

I don't have a ton of experience with all the pedals, but my BB+ has served me well. It's basically 2 pedals in 1; I really like the right side for slight OD edge on hi gain riffing and the left side for saturated lead playing. Pay no mind to the 100+ recommendations coming your way- this is the one.

Just kidding, good luck on your search

Funny but I was never even the least but interested in this pedal. Until I played an actual Triple Recto. If it sounds anything close, it must be a great pedal.

I play a couple of Matamps. Basically similar to an Orange OR120. I was thinking of trying a Wampler SLOtortion.

What happens when you clean boost the OCD?? You could come up with a million answers, I usually try stacking something I already have before buying something else, switching positions, before and after.
Barber Direct Drive (HG) is my current favorite, awesome pedal that can be had on the cheap(used).

Kingsley minstrel, swell pedals g tod , effectrode drive. All tube killer pedals.

OCD was way too gritty and edgy for me too. Hao Rust Driver i wasn't a huge fan of. BB+ will get you gain.

I've owned plenty of OD's the past few years. BB, BB+, OCD, Fulltone GT-500, OD808, OD820, Crunchbox, Suhr Riot and KoKo boost, Carl Martin Plexitone, Barber Direct Drive and Small Fry and Burn Unit, Hao Rustdriver, Boss DS-1's,......ugh what else? Don't remember.

But I just picked up the Bogner XTC red pedal and IMHO i like it the best of the bunch. Most pedals I run with the level up high and gain low and use them on an already overdriving amp. The XTC pedal is the first one that sounds good to me with the level at halfway and using the gain knob. This way you can boost your already overdriven dirt channels PLUS use it on your clean channel. The boost part of it is a little woofy but I'm still tinkering with it.

And it's got a TON more gain than pedals like the OCD or BB. The Carl Martin Plexitone is a good choice as well and it's got boatloads of gain.

tight metal. have a custom built one if your interested. Some extra goodies done for me. pm me

Suhr Riot? I'm not sure if its in your budget, but worth a try.

Good dirt pedal.

I've got a Triple Rectifier and I wanted to be able to replicate the sound anywhere anytime and plugged into any amp. Man, that thing is a beast. I plug it into my Blackheart 7 watt thing with a ported 2x12 and it's like the place is coming down. Into a Twin Reverb? MASSIVE. Into my JTM45 on the vintage side of the pedal? It's one of the best heavy rock tones I've ever heard.

I LIKE this pedal.

Recorded with it recently into my JTM45 for a different, old school Maiden tone, and it sounded great mixed with the Mesa Triple Rec.

Bottom line is sometimes I do fly dates and I just need to have that tone regardless of what backline has been rented for a show. I take the Wampler, a Keeley Baked TS-9 and a Fullone Fulldrive II Mosfet. I can cover anything.
