I have an custom LP that was built for me (rosewood fretboard, maple neck, maple top and mahogany body). I honestly like the Gibson 500T in the bridge of this guitar BUT it is a bit harsh and very prone to feedback in comparison to my other guitars. Is there something similar in sound but not so harsh in the mids and highs and maybe a bit looser in the low end? Maybe something with alnico instead of ceramic as alnico tends to sound a bit warmer to my ears...

Thanks!

Perhaps check out Bare Knuckle; Rebel Yell (if you want more kids), A5 Warpig (its a little Darker), or a Nailbomb (ceramic= less mids tighter, A5= more mids and looser)

I would avoid ceramic magnets as they add the harshness you're not liking in 500T. If you want looser lows, I'd checkout a Duncan Custom Custom. I also really like MCP's and Rio Grande's.

Classic 57s are beautiful pups, wax potted.
The BurstBucker Series are not wax potted, therefore making them a touch more zany, but still super colorful.

Outside of the Gibson hardware, sure BKP is da money, the Riff Raffs for this guitar would be the best choice (IMHO).

Good luck,
Mo

 oops, that was suppose to be "mids"

The 500T is similiar to a Duncan Custom, and the BK Coldsweat is in the ballpark of those.

Oh, we know. I just couldn't pass that one up. sorry..

But Laura,

A good buddy of mine swears by Dimarzio's D-Activator X and they're some preeeetty smoke'n pick ups- With great range as well! He mostly plays in dropped C these days. But here's an example in standard.

Happy hunting.

Then again.. That video sounds really brittle compared to what I'm used to hearing out of his rig

I was in a similar situation and went with the Motor City Pickups Detroiter set...should be here any day now. His pickups are my favorite, since they let your playing come through better than anything I've tried.

MCP Angel Dust A5 or A2, Detroiter or Nasty Nasty!!!. The BKP RY is also a great pickup as is the Nailbomb A5!!

My favorite pickup I've had in my LP was a BG Hellabucker. Really cutting but full, great sounding pickup. No flub whatsoever, but a lot of "chunk." I currently have a set of BG Pure90's in it and they're great too, albeit a little different to what you probably are looking for. Brian's a standup guy though and I haven't heard of anyone being disappointed with any of his wares.

Love the Rio Grande BBQ in LPs, but for more get up and go the Muy Grande rocks too.

I love my BG Hellabuckers but wanted something different. I am torn between the Norton bridge and a SD Custom Custom after reading this. Can anyone give me a bit more info on both? I have MCP's and BG's in my guitars. I LOVE the Detroiter in my Silverburst but wanted something a little hotter and looser sounding (lows on the Detroiter are pretty tight).

SD custom custom uses an alnico II magnet, which is why custom is repeated twice. Norton will not have the weak attitude and will help to take advantage of the resonant mahogany body/maple top.

Norton and air norton are really the same pickup i believe....actually you might want to check to make sure the norton bridge does not have a ceramic pickup. I know for a fact the air norton as an alnico V magnet - that actually might be a better suggestion now that i think about it Laura. Just something to chew on - either pickup will sound great and their voicings are similar, just one is hotter than the other.

I can't comment on the Norton. I've not used them as I'm not a big Dimarzio fan. I have had the SD Custom Custom in a few guitars. I like them alot! The highs are nice and warm while the lows are a kinda loose. They can pull off VH tones easily with the right amp.

From what you described you're looking for, they seem like they would fit the bill nicely.

For your style of music maybe the new BareKnuckle Blackhawk alnico. Email Tim Laura and tell him what you are looking for. He knows Pauls very well.
