I refuse to comply with Reverb now!

I think I remember a tread a while ago about Reverb now asking for a photo ID so they can have that on top of my SSN they already have and address and bank info. although I set up a different account with the bank just for Reverb so they can't have any access to my regular accounts, but now requiring a photo ID seems like they have passed the point where I am comfortable and finally have to stop selling there all together. They have enough of my personal info and I have been selling there 8 plus years so what's next a DNA sample? Fuck Reverb now I guess I'm done selling there!

Anyone else doing the same thing now? I would prefer to just sell locally and on Rig Talk but honestly Reverb gets about a 1000 times more traffic so it's going to suck trying to sell things going forward as it will take much longer even with great prices and this may finally be the nail in the coffin that gets my gear spending under control just thinking about having to try and sell things in this new current sellers climate.

Oh well it was damn good for well over a decade... I will miss it...

Just get used to having way too much stuff bro. That's why most of us on here have too much stuff; we refuse to deal with shipping, or Reverb/eBay, or losing $$$ selling to Guitar Center, or deal with the general public on Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace.

Yeah, it's not even fun buying and selling these days with all the price hikes from fees to exorbitant shipping charges on insured high end gear and having to get a 1099 on gear you didn't even make a profit on but are required to fill out a form showing them that.

It's complete overreach!

Last time they sent a message about it, I ignored it. I've sold 2 guitars since, got paid, and they haven't asked for any of this B.S. again. If they insist, I'll be done with them.
Didn't someone here say they did that and sold something after they refused to give their ID and Reverb withheld their funds until they provided it? I thought I read that somewhere here???

I didn't really use Reverb, but i used to use ebay. I stopped that too. I use kleinanzeigen (used to belong to ebay) now.

When did this start? I sold something on Reverb a few weeks ago and haven’t seen any prompts for a photo ID. Wouldn’t give it them if they did. Same reason I won’t be on FB Marketplace. Zuckerberg wants a pic of me. Nope!

In the past I would have thought no big deal but now god knows what A.I. could do with a clear shot of your face and your license. I’ve been notified of three Data breaches this year alone, so I know that image is hitting the dark web before Labor Day if I upload it now.
But anytime you check in online for an urgent care or video/med appt. Your uploading your license and insurance cards front and back and we know that shit isn’t all that secure either.
I figure I’m fucked eventually and not going to worry about it. I have alerts up the wahzoo for all transactions on all banking/investments and put a watch on my credit for any new loans/accounts. Otherwise 🤷‍♂️

Yep - I have lifelock through work, alerts on my cards & bank account, and have my credit lines frozen.... figure it's the best I can do at this point.
Closed my "shop" on reverb & I now just buy on there

Most of the stuff I'd be selling would be tube amps, cabs and guitars, all of which are PITA for shipping and potential for damage or even getting lost, on top of the seller fees.

I've had good luck recently just selling or trading at my local GC; I go in knowing I'll be getting less money, but it's worth it for the convenience. If the price is too low, I just keep it.

I also amortize my gear; what I paid for it, how long have a owned it, what are the current prices, etc. then figure GC needs to make a profit.

I'll also use local CL if I don't like the GC offer, but mid to high end gear doesn't move fast around here, most of the gear is beginner / cheap stuff, though there are rare exceptions.

I have a park nearby with covered dining area and electric outlets, so I meet CL buyers there.

I'm happy with my amps, guitars and modelers. Using more software plugins these days; as far as GAS goes, there's one more keyboard I want and have room for....after that it will be sell something to buy something as I plan to retire soon.

I'm done with them. Last guitar I sold for $950. My total payout was $713.50. $120 in fees plus $110 for their shipping label. I get they have fees but give me break already.

I've heard horror stories like this, but it's never been my experience.
I assume you used their bump feature, which is why the fees are so high. They make you opt out of this before publishing your listing. If you don't opt out, it's an additional 4.5% to them, I believe.
And while it doesn't sound like you'll be selling another guitar on there, my next piece of advice would be to not use their shipping label. They're a fucking rip off. I use stamps.com and if I were really smart, I'd've gone with pirateship.com, but the last time I had to ship a guitar was less than 50 bucks for a 15 pound box.
Fuck outta here with this 100 dollars for shipping bullshit. They think they're slick lol.

Just realized I haven't sold anything on reverb since 2021. Wasn't really a conscious decision to do it, but all the business and rule changes over the years certainly had me thinking of stopping. I scaled back to local or forum deals, just didn't realize it had been that long... I used to move a lot more gear in general than I do nowadays, so I guess Its not much of a loss. Just have to be more picky about getting things I know I will want because it is definitely harder or takes longer to move them on without reverb.

I did fall for the Bump fee. Ebay does the same shit with promoted listings. I'm conviced if you don't pay extra for promoted listing or bumps they bury your listing and it doesn't get seen. F them all.

What’s funny is almost everyone on here saying they’re done, will give in and be back on there, let’s be real. Like said, every site and service is going this way because fraud and scams are so pervasive. Reverb’s done alright by me so far but I understand the feeling of enough is enough with the need for more Data, more proof, more, more but we’re a garbage race that will subvert and exploit every new advance in technology. Is what it is.
