need a Holdsworth pedal.

I have a delay plugin that can do 8x parallel (edit: modulated) delays like Holdsworth used.

Then it needs a swell, like a slow gear, and a sax like distorted lead tone.

I'm getting close with my SY-1000 after years of effort, still not there yet.

that's why I posted a live version. the audio is meh, but the fusion genius shines through IMO.

For me, Holdsworth is the pinnacle. IMO, he needed context with constraints like he had in UK and Bruford, left to his own devices he just went far beyond comprehension.

My ultimate band would be Holdsworth, Keith Emerson and Bill Bruford.

The left side of that pedal might get you in that ballpark paired with the right cranked amp. It's tight and focused.

I like your taste in gear but we have radically different opinions on music. I mostly hate fusion too. How to take the fun of rock and roll and the technicality and melodic exploration of jazz and wreck both of them at the same time.

That plus a good delay and a Meris Merc7 would probably get @rsm into the ballpark. The mercury has a super sweet swell feature on it. I gotta say too, the comp switch on that is pretty damn nice. Just a dash of compression but nothing where you're like "no shut it off!"
