I think I am going back to good ol' Marshall 412 cabs...

After using my Fryette Fatbottom cabs for the last couple years, I think I am headed back to rear loaded ordinary as fuck Marshall cabs. The Fryette cabs have a ton of low end but I don't need any more, especially with the amp that I use now, it has more low end that I could ever need. Also, the Marshalls have a sweeter top end than the front loaded Fryettes. I just think that Marshalls are more my thing after all.

whoa!!!

I'm going this way also. I've only used Mesa live but am going the Marshall route now. Currently looking for an early 80's JCM800 cab.

It is a good thing I still have my 2 trusty old 1960BV cabs. 13 years old and super broken in...some around here would say they are just broken!

I'd call it mojo

FL'd cabs definitely have a chirpy, weird highend. Not really overkill or an abundance of highend, just...not a proper high end.
Marshall cabs have a nice...flex to their sound and response. Sweet is a good word. I like em too. I just like to try other things and I'm happy I did because I love my other V30 loaded cabs.

I can never find 1960AV cabs for sale used, and I'd never pay for one new.
My last 1960A rattled and buzzed during palm mutes, the handles I think. Which are upgradable, but...meh.

I don't like Marshall cabs. My Stone Age 212 and Bogner 212 both sounded better than either my Marshall 1960 a or 1960b. Favorite 412 cabs are Bogner and Splawn. Smoother, richer and more full than Marshalls, unless maybe you find one from the 70s.

I hate Marshall cabs. Never played one I liked. Love my mills. I'd like to play a Diezel cab, and would love to try some x patterns in my mills, but no Marshalls for me thanks.

Regardless, Killertone can make any Marshall cab have KILLER TONE!

Splawn cabs are about the best I've encountered. Only ones that come close are my Marshall 425A /B Vintage Modern cabs. Most of the amps I have don't sound their best with Vintage 30's (IMHO). Greenbacks, H30S, and Splawn Small Blocks (and even Big Blocks) deliver the goods for me.

V30 cabs need to be played loud, and with earplugs.
I love punishing my V30's this way.

I have been experimenting with both designs in my custom cabinets and I have been playing my front load cab, but I have been gigging with a rear load cabinet similar to the Marshall style and it sounds pretty darn good. I think the rear loaded type cabinet might be the ticket for economic reasons.

my old Laney cab is front loaded, and seems like it might be a bit smaller than a normal Marshall cab. or at least, the speakers seem closer together! either way, those traits, combined with the fact it doenst have cloth on the front (its a steel grill...how much more metal can you get?) tends to make it a bit more present. not necessarily more high end, just different, and its actually a very tight sounding cab IMO, along with having a pretty deep sound. it can thump pretty well, never had a problem handling my 5150 with the resonance turned up (although i usually played with it low), and it can handle my Single Recto just fine. however...

im trying to get a 1984 JCM800 cab from a dude locally. on one hand, i need another cab to leave at my buddy's house so i dont have to transport mine all the time (up and down stairs SUCKS), not to mention being in 2 bands...yea. then on the other hand, its rear loaded, and is obviously going to have a different tone. so what if it works better for one band's sound? who knows...its all possible. plus, it will be fun to be able to hook into 2 4x12s again!

the only downside...the cab has G12m70s. well, not really a downside. they just dont sound really good at lower volumes. i never had a problem with my tone when it was loud and proud. so as long as the cab can deliver the goods at volume ill be happy. if not, ill swap a couple out for some different speakers. i want that cab!

I've always liked the Marshall cabs. Never had a single problem with one. I will usually go inside a cab(any cab) and tighten everything up but that's about it. I like the 1960 AV/BV cabs. They sound killer with my amp. I have to say that I do prefer rear loaded cabs. Not a big deal either way for me though. I'm easy and my amp isn't really picky.

RL for me too.
So much so that I converted my Krank to RL and at the same time swapped the Legends for V30's. That cab pumps.

All cabs sound the same to the FOH when mic'ed.

There is so much truth to that statement....

I have become so uninterested in rolling speakers and chasing that shit. If I can't get an amp EQ'd like I want it in either a Marshall 412 with GB's or a Mesa 412 with V30's, then I lose interest in the amp in a hurry. Fuck all that nonsense.
