That's awesome. How the hell are they going to ship those coast-to-coast for $55?

No clue.... I would have put about $125 to $150 for shipping.

We shall see. :)

Those amps sound great with the treble knob pulled on the lead channel--very modded Marshally. However, you need the footswitch to access the lead channel and not just any old footswitch will do. It has to be an unusual Randall only 8 pin deal which are very hard to find.

It's a cinch-jones connector, Mouser carries them......

The Randall RG80es head I had started acting up on me, so James Peters bought it from me to fix it for himself. I don't remember if he ever fixed it, though.

I checked it out, and figured I could fix the specific problem, but the entire circuit had enough oxidation/contamination that if I decided to fix it I could be going down a road I didn't want to go. I sold off a few of the parts to people with incomplete RG series amps and threw the rest in the trash.

It was one of the best sounding solid state amps I'd used.

What kind of tones can you get out of those? Those are the heads that Dimebag, and Lynch used correct? Which albums (songs) did Lynch use them? Any body got any clips?

You don't need the footswitch to access either channel. With no footswitch plugged into those old Randalls, both channels are active simultaneously. To get all distortion, turn the volume of the clean channel all the way down. To get clean, turn the volume of the distortion channel all of the way down. You can blend both to taste if needed.

I liked mine better with the treble knob in, but it barely had enough distortion that way. With the treble knob out, the distortion increased, but the amp volume dropped ALOT and the amp lost some punch.

Cool...I was going to ask about that!

FANTASTIC DEAL! I wouldn't paid that in a heartbeat. I actually had that exact same rig a few years ago (both the head and cab.) The stock speakers in those cabs suck pretty bad, so I replaced mine with Celestions and that sounded MUCH better. If I remember right, that cab is MDF and heavier than it looks.

The Randall RG80es head I had started acting up on me, so James Peters bought it from me to fix it for himself. I don't remember if he ever fixed it, though.

Great rig!

I have actually heard that the Jaguars sound good with those amps...have no experience personally though.

We shall see what I think

Nope, sorry.

The closest sound I could get to any well-known artist's sound was Def Leppard circa 1990. I've read that Dimebag used a distortion pedal in front of his Randall amp to get the distortion sound he did, so this doesn't surprise me.

I am fairly certain Dime ran an MXR 6 band in front and a Parametric EQ in the loop to get his tone. I don't think he used a boost, but could be wrong.

When I had the RS100es, I used a boost and it got well into the territory I like. I plan to try my Bad Monkey and 808 in front of this one and my MXR 10 band in the loop.

FWIW, I had an RG100HT (rackmount 100-watt head) and an RG80es and I preferred the tone from the RG80es. I didn't have them at the same time to compare side-by-side, but the RG80es sounded sweeter to me and more tubelike. So yeah, good purchase!

Can I call dibs if it works properly and you decide to sell it? :D

Sure thing you vulture you

Dime ran an MXR 6-band eq into a Furman PQ-3 driving the hell out of the front end of his Randalls......no distortion pedals at all. Lynch "says" he was the one who helped in the designing of the RG amps.

I stand corrected

I dont know alot, but I do know Dimes tone......

Is that a good or bad thing???

I know I am in the minority, but I think his tone fit that music PERFECTLY.

Me too, I've always loved Dimes "Pantera" tone, but thats a bad thing to admit in these parts

Well, boosting the hell out of it with anything is close enough to a distortion pedal IMO. :) I probably think that way since I generally won't use a "distortion pedal" anymore, but choose to use some milder OD to "clean boost" an amp; to me that is "distortion pedal" usage nowadays. I find most "distortion pedals" in general to be unappealing to me.

I'm sure he had significant input in the design...just like EVH "designed" the 5150 for Peavey. :D
