A/B'd along with my Mesa Tremoverb, and the Trem just smoked the Framus. There was a straight up trade on the table for me to decide. I REALLY wanted to like the Framus, as it was basically new with original box, unopened footswitch, etc., but it was only ok at best. Modded Marshall sounding, but too loose, open, dry, and spongy. A lack of definition and focus and very grainy. After tweaking the knobs for awhile, I realized that this amp just doesn't stand up to many others in it's price range. Really hard to get the kind of tones I like. Definately a voicing issue for me. After about 45 minutes on the Framus, we switched over to the Trem and it was a crushing monster in comparison. So really, it was an easy choice to keep the Trem as it was by far the better sounding head (for my taste anyway). Although neither of them touches my Diezel Einstein. (It's in a class all by itself, IMHO.)

Interesting to know that. I have wondered about the Framus and I have always love the tone of the Mesa Trem. But like you I like the Einstein I love how it sits in a live mix.

The dragon was OK but I have heard other Marshall hot rods I like better. Anyone know of a amp more mean sounding than a Tremoveb? I have played amps with more bass/tighter - but not as angry sounding.

either that Framus had issues or you hadn't gotten into the EQ. I've owned the tremoverb too and it was way weak compared to my Dragon but, my Dragon was running 3 power tubes factory. I had to solder the leads as they weren't connected from the factory.

a lof pf people dial them in wrong too. That and of course tone's personaly subjective so you may just not have liked it,lol.

I was there .... It is a matter of taste. He sold the Tremoverb years ago....

The EQ on the Cobra's and Dragon's is kinda weird, it's not the normal FMV tone stack you see on most amps. Dialing them in is different. Also you have to run the channel volumes very high and use the overall master or the Dragon sounds thin and buzzy.

You might like the Cobra better, most pissed off aggressive sounding amp I've ever played.

You do realize this thread is from Wed, Aug 08, 2007 7:47am. Going on 5 years ago....The person who started this thread has not posted since May.

Being able to use the amp and tune it in had nothing to do with it in any way. It is simply a matter of taste.

I play funk and R&B... a pissed off aggressive sounding amp is nothing I would be interested in.
