I offered to try to fix a friends Ibanez EX1700 guitar. It needs some TLC. The neck pickup is not working, I have been able to diagnose it as an open coil. The pickup has 3 wires, white, red, and ground. On the good bridge pickup the white to ground gives the full 14k. White to red and red to ground give about 7k. Both the red and white wires are connected to the 5way switch. My guess is that in positions 2 and 4, they are splitting the humbuckers and running that split in parallel with the middle SC.
Anyway, I was looking for ideas on what to propose to my friend. The humbuckers in the guitar are creme, and the middle pickup is black. I figured I could just hook up the red wire on the neck humbucker so that when the neck pickup was engaged, it would be the split humbucker.
Any ides on some good cheap creme neck humbuckers?
Here is a link to a similar EX1700. http://gfrm.phantomotaku.com/showthread.php?tid=193
I am not very familiar with the EX1700, but this guitar does seem to play and sound pretty good.
