Looking at buying an RG Prestige; RG652MPBFX to be exact. Need some input from those who play or have played them.

Specs would be:
6 string
maple/walnut Super wizard HP neck
Birdseye maple board
Jumbos
poplar burl top on a mahogany body
Gibraltar standard II bridge
Air Norton neck Tone Zone bridge (The bridge would more than likely get swapped out pretty quick for a BKP)

Anyone have first hand experience playing heavier thrash and death stuff on an RG? Stuff like Revocation, Sylosis, Carcass, Warbringer, Arch Enemy, Kreator. I guess I always associated RG's with more shreddy prog metal and hair metal.

I really like the specs; in theory seems like it may work well for the Br00tz, but I'm not sure

Ibanez makes some real nice guitars that are good at whatever you'd want. I'm a big fan.

I don't see why not. It's a gat damn Prestige RG.

It's not the tool; it's the carpenter

Yeah, yeah, I know   Should of seen that coming   Thing is I have an LP studio that I just don't gel with in a metal context. Tried numerous pickups but it still doesn't cut for me. Its more in the way it plays, or doesn't play for me for the heavy stuff. Really like that axe for rock though.

i been playing my jaguar with p90s for everything brutal lately, im sure an ibanez can pull it off

Ibanez is the definition of metal.

That guitar is going to be great. Based from the specs it is going to sound throaty as fuck and play very fast with a comfy neck.

I think you made a good choice. I am really digging my ESP these days but Ibanez makes great guitars.

ESP makes some phenomenal guitars. I've played a few high end models at Drum city guitarland in CO and thought they were amazing. I've always wanted another Ibanez though. The first electric I ever owned as a kid was an Ibanez so definitely some nostalgia there.

Right, That's what I thought based on specs alone.

You still rockin a BKP MM in that Horizon? How's that pup?
Thought about trying one but I'm just so fucking happy with the Painkiller.

I am, the guitar has push/pull and I am not very experienced soldiering so I think I am going to leave it.

At first I didnt like it and thought it was too much output but I lowered the pup a bit and it seems better.

I do like it, sounds really good but my Ibanez sounds throaty for lack of a better work and it is a small S. So I do think I could have a better pup for my ESP but idk what I will do.

Thought about going EMG or something with less output.

Looks really nice, I like that bridge a lot too.

I want a flat bridge like that. I have gotten used to the TOM I guess but I am more used to a flat bridge.

Got ya.
The two higher output BKPs I've own/owned (C-pig and Painkiller) I had to lower to the point that they were just flush with or barely above the pickup ring. I forget what I measured them at in terms of mm, but they were really low. That's where I got the best result. I tend to like higher output but compensate by setting em low.

Yep. That's one of the features I think I'll like the most. I don't get on with tom bridges too well for playing metal, just my preference. That's the main reason I can't get on with my LP studio for metal, just doesn't feel right for me. I love the feel I get on my floyd Carvin, but I'm sick of dealing with the floyd set up for the little bit I use it. Kinda thinking this will be a similar profile height to get me in that ballpark.

You might also want to consider something like an ESP EII Horizon string thru or a Schecter. (ESP owns Schecter FWIW). The new ESP E-II models I've tried have been killer. Especially for brOOtz rhythm stuff.

Yeah man, I've played some really awesome custom shop ESP stuff at a shop in Colorado and was thoroughly impressed. Hell, even the LTD stuff is amazing! I did look at the Horizon II before pulling the trigger on the RG but at this point I went for the RG because of the unfinished back of neck, the wood combo, the bridge profile, and the top finish. Plus I have always wanted to try one of these Prestige models.

Wow! That is a looker. Unusual top for an Ibby. I know what you mean about the unfinished neck. I really dig those too. I wish more builders would do it.

The unfinished necks really are tits. My Carvin is unfinished tung oil; love it.
