Ibanez Prestige Uppercuts?

I ran across this model online and see a few on Reverb but they don’t seem to be widely available. Do any of you know the story with these or have direct experience?

They are really slick looking with satin black finishes, white binding and Bareknuckle pickups. There’s an RG with a Floyd, a RGD 7-string, a Les Paul style guitar, and another singlecut that looks slightly like a Tele.

I’m a noob when it comes to Ibanez but am considering changing it up. The local market is pretty sparse when it comes to Prestige availability but these caught my eye. Thanks.

Any Ibanez Prestige is going to play really well. If you like the specs and look, you can’t really go wrong.

Some of the new Uppercuts have stainless steel frets. If that’s important to you, make sure to clarify with the seller.

Thanks, cardinal. I was looking at the hardtails but this video of the RG6UCS is pretty dope.

I know Ibanez necks can be thin but I was surprised by the specs on this one ... approx .670-.750!

I had that guitar from the video, while it was well built and had the Ss frets and BK pickups, it was very thin sounding with very little body to the sound. They were also $2200 new. IMO look at a used Rg655 or the new Rg reissues if youre going the Ibanez route and save some $$

I was looking at some used Prestige RG652 models as well. That are prob only $500-600. Not gonna lie though, the Uppercut looks and specs definitely caught my eve!

Took me a while to figure out what they meant by “uppercut”. I guess it’s referring to the Bare Knuckle fighting theme? Nothing to do with the cut of wood or any new shuttle design change?

Something id expect from the cheaper stock ibanez pickups. Shouldnt be weak with high end pups. Good advice here from V-Killer if this is the case with these guitars.

I think these use BKP Aftermaths? A lot of people seem to really hate those pickups. Supposedly very clanky and harsh. They might be easy to sell though and swap for something you like better.

Basically Ibanez wanted to cash in on the djent crowd so they created these models with a some upgrades for substantially more money than the Prestige models they were based on. They may have overshot on the price as I haven't seen many people grabbing them (could also have been very low production numbers to test the market).

technomancer, I think you’re right. The more I look into these, the price just seems too high.

Kind of a sidebar but related question - a regular production Prestige RG from the last 5 or so years (nothing special or limited, etc.) would typically go for about $500-600, correct? I looked on Reverb but as usual, the used prices looked like most of the sellers were dreaming.

They look cool... but way overpriced. Be prepared to take a big hit if/when you sell. They're a bunch of $700 used Ibby Prestige models that are almost the same specs. Lack of pup rings (no pup height adjustment) and the BK pups (not a fan) is a turnoff for me.

You can adjust the pickup height. There’s compressed foam under the pickups. As you back out the mounting screws, the foam pushes the pickup upwards.

As mentioned I wanted to change it up a bit and started looking at some ibanez builds , mainly liked the tele looking one. The prestige is 2k. The iron label or premium is less but as mentioned a bit costly when u take away the ss frets and bk p/us. So I started looking at some schecters with similar features for around 1k. Not meaning to derail the ibanez thread but maybe someone helps me decide as well. The prestige is MIJ which is helpful. The schecter is S Korea but they seem to play well have the ss frets and p/us are Duncan's in some.

I have some Korean built guitars that are just as nice as Prestige MIJ stuff. But that’s not always the case (fretwork can be a bit more hit or miss), but if you have a return policy and don’t mind sending them back until you get one you like, I’d go for it. The first one you get might be all you need.

I keep picking up the Apocalypse and it feels decent. Also picked up an Ibanez rg655 prestige that is marked down as its older and needs to be moved. Doesnt have the ss frets or I'd probably have gotten it already even being basswood. Wanting something a bit different, ash, alder or
