There is much confusion over which cabinets are which. It would be nice to have an official thread or documentation of the differences so people can properly identify which cabs are which. I've seen this question come up many many times on the Diezel forum. In the US it is hard to tell if a dealer or private seller has a real Diezel Cabinet. From my understanding there are 3 different periods of Diezel licensed cabinets.

  • Known Diezel Production 412 Cabinets
  • German 412 FL (1996-2003?) okoume/poplar
  • German 412 RL (?? -- 2003? ) Straight/slant baffle Birch
  • Diezel Licensed USA FL outsourced | no okoume | all poplar (2003-2007)
  • Diezel Licensed USA RL (??)
  • Current production Diezel cabs made in Germany. Tongue and Groove added to corners and baffle. Back to okoume/poplar for FL I've also heard these are the only ones with silver piping. I'd like to know more about other distinguishing characteristics.

It would be helpful to know any differences and identifying features of each of these cabinet types. It'd also be helpful to know some characteristics of unlicensed cabs for identification purposes.

Here is a video interview with Peter Stapfer in 2008 I believe.

This is important stuff. I have read that the logo is different on the fake cabs and that there are some other things that are noticeable from just looking at the cab but I have never seen pics of the fake cabs or fake logo. It would be awesome if we could get some pics side by side that show the differences!!

Agreed Banana. I think this is stuff we as a community can help each other solve. I've heard the logo differences as well but I have NO idea how to tell them apart. I have a 212 USA cab, but I don't know if it is a fake?

This question actually stopped me from buying a Diezel cab because it was 2nd hand with no way to verify which cab it was.

I wouldn't pass up a good cab just because you are worried about some fakes. If you are able to look over it well, you should be able to tell if it's a POS or not.

No one has ever posted pics of any fakes, or have ever even said they've personally seen one for that matter. I wouldn't be surprised if it's nothing more than just a rumor that got started.

The USA cabs are not fakes, they are just not the German made Diezel cabs which most people prefer. Diezel had a couple of USA distributors over the years and because it was too $$ to import big heavy cabs from Germany they outsourced the production of cabs to their own builders. They were sold as Diezels in the USA because they had the right to do so. IMO the best Diezel cabs ever made are the ones they are making now in Germany. Problem is hardly any have made it to the USA because it costs $800 to ship them one by one and they get damaged. Suffice to say only a very few of the new real mccoy German Diezel cabs are here in the states.

The only way to get them here reasonably is to rent a container and send it full from germany via ocean transport. As their is no USA distributer to buy 20 or 30 cabinets and have then shipped ocean freight there is no supply here. They do send several over for NAMM at great expense and those are the only ones that get over here and they are sold to their dealers at NAMM instead of taking them home.

Hint Hint I have a very few of the new 2012 German 4x12s available if your interested hit me up.

Thats the deal on Diezel Cabs in a nutshell.

Thanks for your input Brad. We're left a bit confused concerning some comments left by Peter Diezel and Jens lately.

Peter:
Please note that a lot of Diezel cab copies
are around. We also never recommended the
Eminence "Diezel OEM" speakers.

We are prepared for this trademark infringement
and are in contact with the US trademark office
right now. Our trademark is registered in the
States since 1997.

The original Diezel cabs came and come always
from Germany.

And in same thread;
A few American cabs are lincensed with the original
Diezel logo and made in California. Should be around
100 pieces.

Jens:
Be careful with cheap used Diezel cabs. Most of them (almost all) are US made and illegal copies.
