If I hate EMG's would I hate...........

I've had my EMTY's in my Slimer Charvel for a few days now and have been really enjoying them. They're a very hot pup, but not searing hot. I'd put them on the same level as a Dimarzio Super 3 as far as hotness goes. They respond well to every note that is played and offer great articulation, but don't sound processed like EMG's do. It seems like a dual purpose pickup. When playing rhythm, they have that great Seymour Duncan attack. When playing single notes, every note is clear and well defined. I'd give them a try if I were you. I'm not much of an active pup guy, but the EMTY's really nail it.

I wound up going with an SD Custom 7 in the bridge and a Jazz 7 in the neck.
That combo has never failed me.
EMG's will not work under any circumstances for me since they can not be hooked up to a 5 way.
I am not going to sacrifice having 5 tones + vs the push/pull pots that are the only options for EMG.

They should be here Monday, so I'll wire em up and see how they go.
They should be just what I'm looking for.
As for my signal chain, that is not the issue at all.
I have all those bases covered

Let us know how you like the Custom, Im curious about that in a 7 string...... However I still think you could have gotten all the splitting options you wanted with the EMG 707tw's

I will.
I was on the phone with Rick at EMG, and he said in order to get the kind of wiring I'm looking for, the only option is to "try" to find a 4 pole 5 way switch.
Each pickup has 7 wires, so I'm not about to go nuts on a brand new guitar.
I just want standard 5 way operation like any good H H guitar has, and I HATE push pull pots unless they are in addition to a 5 way, like my CS Strat with Suhrs.

Some of my thoughts:

EMG 81 - Clear, powerful, tight and proper metal. Lacks nuance but records really well. Battery is a pain in the ass.

Evolution - Like the EMG, tight, very focused, records well. There is an upper mid hump which I didnt like. Can sound a little compressed. Lots of harmonics.

Duncan Distortion: Full, angry, high output, more open, great pickup.

Duncan JB: Great rock pickup, very versatile, fuller sounding than anything Dimarzio has, nice cut in the lower mids but it has a high mid hump which people dont like, not as tight, a little greasier in that sense, harmonics up the yin yang.

Duncan Custom: Like the JB but tighter, mid hump is less amongst the high mids (more "mid-mids"), slightly less output than a JB, but fuller sounding. GREAT PICKUP!!
