I'm a newbie player and I want to go ampless (think pod hd).

Here's my current gear:
Vox AD15 Valvetronix
Peavey XXX combo

I wanna get rid of both and opt for a Boss GT100, Pod HD500X or a Digitech RP500 and play through the amp sims at bedroom volume through a headset.
My question is how good are these for music in this style (think post hardcore, shoegaze, indie rock)?

No one will be able to tell you if those units will suit your needs except you. Get yourself to a store and check them out. Bring your guitar and a set of headphones you feel comfortable with and put them through their paces.
Or pick one and buy from Musicians Friend. Try it for a few weeks and if it doesn't work out, send it back.

The Boss GT100 is weak for amp models and cabs. It's a good unit as an effects processor for an amp. Go for the HD500. Or if you can save around 1k get a used Axe-Fx standard, they're still good units and I'd still rather have one of those than anything Line 6.

I picked up Amplitube 3 and run it off my laptop.

I have the Orange amp pack, but there's Marshall, Fender, etc... that you can pick up, too

Sounds pretty decent and might be something to consider.

If you have an iPhone, just get an Apogee thing and Positive Grid's Bias sim. Sounds better than I remember the AxeFX II that I had years ago.

Shoegaze??
Was thinking the same thing!
I'm guessing some emo, introverted, depressing whinny shit.

And easily offended by older white males.
