Well, After getting pretty good at building guitars (the type I like anyway) and programming and wiring up effects processors, mixers, splitters, stereo rigs, W/D/W rigs, slaving rigs, etc., I finally couldn't stand the itch anymore and got into modding my first plexi style amp. I bought this amp on here and it was a Marshall 1959SLP that had been reworked as a Super Bass instead of a Super Lead, so I started rewiring the board and voicing it as a Super Lead using Valvestorm parts. From there I started going further working to get more gain out of it and going after THAT tone, the modded '68 plexi thing.
There is a very knowledgeable, good man who has helped me with my learning curve. I won't name his name unless he give's me the OK because I'm not sure he want's an invitation for others to come to him with help with their learning curve, but I still want to give credit where it is due. I hope I haven't driven him nuts. He was a starting point for me into this little world because I have no electrical or electronics background. I'm a metrology engineer and work in a manufacturing lab and have a background in machine tool, so I have a technical background, but this is a new learning curve for me.
With all that said, here are two video clips (not great playing or recording work either) of where I am at so far. Given the rough recording using my IPhone (it is all I have to record with) I'm curious to hear your thoughts on where I'm at so far. I still have more changes in mind. These are just quick, rough clips and not my best playing (I can't play worth shit as soon as I hit record or if anyone is listening), but I'm curious to hear you opinions on the amp. Both clips are using a guitar I built with a Bareknuckles VHII humbucker.
First, here is a video of where the amp started voiced as a Super Bass and before I touched anything. This is straight up cranked and everything on 10.
And here is where I am at as of today:
