Ive never been a big Dimarzio guy. Ive had a few and was never blown away. Ive been reading about the tone Zone. Seems it has a big bottom end? Any thoughts? Its going in a very bright strat.

..Very fat full loud pickup .darker and warm good harmonics ..I like mine in my custom RG they would complement a bright amp more than say a bogner or darker voicing

I liked the one that came in my charvel, it sounded nice and thick with plenty of output.

i had one in an alder fender strat, but it seemed too bassy down low and scratchy up top and generally too overpowering to be as dynamic as i'd like a pickup to be.
i dropped an EVH duncan in it's stead and it was game on.

The only pup that didnt soun d like an AM radio in this guitar was a duncan distortion. I sold that off a while ago. Ive even tried putting an entire pickgaurd assmebley from another strat in it and its still super bright (or lacking lowend?). The Duncan sounded good. Supose i could get another one but Id like to try something different. I really think Id love the Afwayu in it. But this Tone Zone has peaked my interest

I have a custom in another guitar. I love it. I tried it in this strat and it didnt work out. This strat is a 97 AM Std. Plays like a dream. I just cant get anything to jive with it. Shes a picky little bitch

Hows the wiring? Verify that nothing is where it shouldn't be and that the ground network is neat and tidy. I just ripped out the stock factory ground network out of one of my guitars that I've had for years and replaced it with my own and it sounds tons better now. Good wiring = good sound. Bad wiring can ruin any pickup or guitar.

I would say overall that they are not one of my favorites, but I've had a few guitars where it worked so well that I can't imagine anything else could have been any better. A very "hit or miss" pickup for me but probably worth trying out in your case.

Try before you Buy. They are a very bassy pickup which works great for some rigs and so so on others. Go to any charvel dealer and play a so-cal model. The So Cals come loaded with the Tone Zones stock.

I'm in the same spot right now, got a great Strat that sounds like crap and is too middy and bright.
I need all the wiring looked at, new bridge 'bucker and a full setup. I'm just avoiding throwing cash at it in order to get it done... :aww:

Pickups I've considered are:
Tone Zone
Breed
Moe Joe
GFS Crunchy PAT

Don't... too warm with that signature round Dimarzio tone. Not organic enough. The only Dimarzio I somewhat like is the HS3 and an old PAF that I had lying around. That one sounds great.

Duncan Custom is a great choice .. I assume we are talking SH-5 or is it the SH-11. Either are good though.

I like the Tone Zone. it has great complex harmonics in the mids and it's overall warm sounding.
It was one of the things I actually liked about the So Cal...before I sold it.

let me know what you find Ive been curious about that one since dream theater first got popular

Tone Zone works great in the bridge of bright guitars.
I like it in a bright Wolfgang I have, and a super bright Tele Deluxe RWRI.
Sounds like you're on the right track, give it a try.

Someone correct me if I am wrong... thought I heard Vinnie Moore used a Tone Zone and two DP181s. I actually have that combination on my American Standard Fat Strat. I loved it, about 8 years ago. Hardly grab that guitar now since I currently prefer a strat with a vintage sound.
Hard to comment on it being "too bassy" etc. So many other things come into play - preamp wiring, your guitar lead, how you run your amp and so on.
Have to say though, if you want to rock or shred, and still want to get some definition, it's not a bad place to start. You may want to consider the DP181s as well - that combination is quite balanced.

I like the Tone Zone in brighter guitars. Good pick imo. And yeah I remember hearing that Vinnie Moore used Tone Zone's in his heyday.

I put one in my strat to darken it up after having a paf pro, love it

yeah it really balanced out my strat, and if you dont like it they are easy to flip
