I've got a decision to make here regarding interfaces for home recording.
I've recently decided to get back into home recording, and last week spec'd out and picked up a new iMAC - i7, Quad Core, 16GB RAM, 1TB Fusion.

I'm picking up a TwoNotes Captor 16ohm this week as well for tracking guitars and bass over drums which we'll record at a studio.

Anyway, I bought an older version RME Babyface from a friend. However, it looks as though I'll need to download the drivers, and it's USB only.
Should I use this as my interface, or instead buy one of the newer Focusrite Clarett 2pre's?

I'm liking the idea of a Thunderbolt connection, which my iMAC has.

Which will sound better between the two?
Which will have less latency?
What's the best way to go here for an interface?

Many thanks!

I’d go with the Clarett. I have the Clarett 8pre and love it. If your grabbing a new Mac I’d go the extra mile and get the new interface as well. Especially with the Thunderbolt connectivity.

Nice specs on the mac.
For sure. Should get a lot of use out of that.

OP, will you be using Logic Pro X?

I have the USB type C version of the Clarett 2 Pre, and there's a big difference between type C and USB 3, I would imagine true Thunderbolt 3 would be glorious.

What are you tracking that makes you think you need Thunderbolt? I do huge electronic sessions over USB with Audient gear, Logic and Mac.

I haven't heard or tried true Thunderbolt 3, but I do notice quite a difference between USB 3 and USB type C with the Focusrite 2 Pre unit, YMMV>

Ive got a clarett 2 pre thunderbolt up for grabs if you're interested. No longer need it with the axe fx III. Thought it sounded great when using it though
