Initially underwhelmed with the Quad cortex - any tips or tricks?

I've been happy with my Kemper, and I have a love/hate with the FM3...

I got a quad cortex in as a trade - did a factory reset, initial impressions are "meh". (same reaction when first using a Kemper and Fractal)
I'm going to check for any version updates that may need to be done..

Any suggestions, tips, tricks, favorite captures?

I had more luck sampling captures from the app that were highly rated instead of the stuff that was on the device from the factory. Bringing over a known good IR was useful too. I ended up moving on…

It’s power is in captures or captures of others, not the default settings.

I thought the models were sorta meh except for the 2203 and JPC+, which sounded very much like the amps.

I think it does a great job with captures. I just made my own; finding others seems like a hassle.

I have captures of a JMP 2204 (low input dimed; high input crunch; high input boosted) and a Rev G Recto boosted. Let me know if you're interested in checking those out. I think they sound great and hardly ever use the actual amps now.

I think this is the Recto capture recorded with an SM57 through a Marshall 1960AV and some sort of Les Paul

That sounds nuts.. I like how it tracks the fast chugs around 20 seconds in too

It took me about a week to really start dialing in tones on my Quad Cortex that I liked. I also came from the Kemper world. I think its a bit of a learning curve with the new workflow process. I do miss some of the effects in the Kemper. I will say that once I did captures of my amp, I knew that I was on the right track. I did a direct capture and then applied the same IR that I use with my TwoNotes Captor X when I bring my actual amp to a show. The tone was spot on. The capture process with the QC is much easier than with the Kemper, IMHO.
