I had some leftover dense foam i got for replacing the inside of a roadcase.

I insulated the bottoms & sides up to the handles inside my 4x12's and two 6 inch x 12 inch panels on the inside back of the cabs.

I gotta tell you it made quite a difference, much more low end and it tightened the bottom quite i bit.

I had to back off the bass on the amps.

Worthy upgrade IMO.

I tried it too. Insulation change the size of the cab, like adding more virtual volume.

I tried various steps (only the bottom, on the back panel..), but in the end i remove it all. I prefer the cabs without it, and the back panel made with MDF.

It seems more Spatial or 3D sounding ...

Definitely took out all rattle & buzz.

Effects seem more clear.

I doubt i would have the same results with like a woolly or fiberglass type insulation.

Where did you buy the foam?

This was my experience with insulating cabs too. At first I was stoked about the low end thump, but it seemed to take away something I couldn't quite figure out. I played with different amounts and putting it on different walls, but I was happier with it once I pulled it all out.

Ebay has good quality stuff .... its has high density.

I did the complete insides of a 2ftx4ft roadcase plus the bottom halves of both 4x12's with this one order of foam.

You have to think ahead how you cut to cover everything.

Used 3M spray glue adhere.

I Have a Head/Rack Case Combo that I need to add more foam to, to protect my Soldano Avenger. The Rack Portion has all the foam I could need but the head portion had very little since it was originally designed for a JCM 800 head.

You can get that foam in different sizes.

I purposely left the top halves of my cabs without foam to keep them brite.

My Rivera cab and the Bogner cabs do this, definitely makes a cool difference in the tone.

I took the foam out of one of my Bogner cabs and I like it better that way. Cab sounds more lively and less beamy. With the foam, it's definitely tighter. But it projects more and kills some resonance.

I put batting in my Splawn Straight 4x12 on 3 sides. Helped a lot on boominess.

So i just got done jamming 30 minutes @ volume. I had alot of reverberation & boominess before.

I was able to turn the bass back up on the amps. sounds great, supper tight.

I could do notes & bends standing right in front of the cabs and it was all tight even with reverb, chorus & delay [wet/dry rig].

I could really crank the amps without the noise gate freaking out, before it liked to not close sometimes.

I think this is going to work great, IDK if its a good fit for everybody but its helped me.

And dropped tunings again super tight.

I had the opposite results... i used a very soft foam thick 2cm. Soft foam increase the internal volume (virtually); but with a dense foam, or any other too stiff material, the internal volume get reduced.

More internal volume = more boomy. Less = more tight.

I suggest to experiment with wire gauges for wiring and back panel materials..
