The songs all have a very "steel on steel" sounding pick attack that just sounds sooo heavy!
I love it ... You can really hear in the rythym chords of the song Voodoo... Just adds a touch of something very cool to the guitar track... what amps did he use on that album/cd? Doesn't sound like his Laney amps...

Quite possibly a Mesa Mk II Coliseum. I believe that was used on Born Again.
He also used super thin strings, which add to the clank.

Heaven and Hell was a Dawk modified Marshall. Mob Rules could be that Marshall or he might have been using Mesa by then.
Some of his guitars had Dawk's Master Tone Circuit installed too.

Never associated Iommi with Mesa amps.

* Laney GH 100 TI Tony Iommi Signature amplifiers His current main amplifier
* Engl Powerball Amplifiers Only used in 2009, no longer used
* Laney 4x12 Cabinets
* Various Marshall amplifiers (Used from early-mid 80's, to 1993. The listed amplifiers were used from 1990-1993), Out of Studio: 9005 Power Amplifiers and 9001 Preamps, Marshal 4x12 speaker cabinets. In the Studio: 2554 Silver Jubilee Combo, 2558 Silver Jubilee Combo, Paul Reed Smith modded JCM800 head. Also can be seen using several Marshall JMP and JCM800 heads during the Black Sabbath performance of the 1985 Live Aid concert.
* Peavey 5150 Amplifier Given to him by Eddie Van Halen, but he did not use them, since he did not desire the sound
* Orange Halfstack Used on the performance for Beat-Club, in which he was possibly forced to use as a backdrop. He claims that he does not like the sound of Orange amplifiers, so this is a strong possibility.
* Laney Supergroup Heads His main amplifier used from 1968-1979
* Mesa Boogie Mark series Heads Used from the mid 1980's to the early 1990's

Good read. Thanks bro.

Jim

Mob Rules was a mix of his modded Marshalls and early Boogie heads that he was just then beginning to use live and in the studio. The Boogies were 300 Watts I believe too. The Starlicks video of Iommi has his Boogies (as well as Iommi playing a BC Rich Ironbird :no: ).
