What do you guys like as far as iPad/iPhone apps that helps you with your music? I'd love some recommendations.

Here's what I have/use

Karajan- cool ear training app For learning intervals and chords.
AnyTune- slows down music for transcribing, I got the free one. Works reasonably well.
Metronome- it uh.... Works like a metronome.:)
Premier Guitar- in case you don't know, this cool mag is totally free online or as an app.
GarageBand- just downloaded. I've used it extensively on a Mac but not yet on my iPad. Thinking it will be a cool tool to get song ideas down.

Oh, and what do u use an an interface? iRig? Apogee Jam? Do you know if the Apogee One can be used on an iPad 2?

I'd love some recommendations for a chord/scale,library, theory training, or whatever else you think is helpful!

Happy new year RT-ers!!!

I got The Amazing Slow Downer, Garage Band, Apogee Jam - can't think of anything else I need right now, but that's some fun stuff!

Thanks Darren! Hey man, you may remember me. My band Vette (with Dawn Demone) played right before you and Miss Kitty (?) a few years back at Universal B&G. You gave me a great recommendation for a dual volume Ho Attenuator which I ended up getting!

Guitar Toolkit... awesome chord "chart", metronome, and some other gizmos. It's 10 bucks, but worth it, IMO.

Im with Darren on ASD and GB, both are terrific aps. GB is great on the quick and you cant beat its price, if you can afford it Logic is the next best step and I love it.

Just got an iPad 2 for Xmas and irig but don't know shit about this stuff really. What stuff do u like best?

+1

Get the apogee jam and stay away from the irig or link as far as interfaces go.

I've tried a bunch of trainer/transcribing type software like ASD and Slow Notes and many others but I recently ditched them all for Anytune Pro HQ. The app is 15$ but I've never heard such high quality audio for slowed down songs. All other software introduced stuttering and a cavernous type reverb in the audio that made it very hard to hear what was going on as early as 70-80% of the song speed. With Anytune Pro HQ, the quality remains constant all the way to 25% of the song speed. They're also working on some EQing features for cancelling/isolating frequencies to jam over without leads, vocals or to simply remove some of the cacophony in crowded sections of songs. I never really paid for other apps as the demos never showed if the paid versions had improved sound quality like Anytune Free did but I'm really happy with this one at the moment.

+1 on Guitar Toolkit as well! Very useful for chords and scales and other stuff.

I also got the TC Polytune app while it was free a while back. I most use it with Peavey/Agile Ampkit which is pretty darn impressive for an iPad guitar modeller.

Amplitube is fine but I much prefer Ampkit.

I was really annoyed with the Apogee Jam when it refused to work with my iPod Touch 4th Gen when many sites claimed it worked but it really doesn't and Apogee has no plans to support it so I returned it.

I currently use the Guitar Jack 2 interface with my iPad 2 to use the applications. There hasn't been many reviews out yet. I really like mine, it sounds so much better that those crappy iRig/Amplink dongles and it's all aluminum so it won't physically break anytime soon. It also has a 1/4 instrument input and 1/8 line input for anything else. The headphone output is amplified to provide a bit more juice for headphones that need it. I'm quite happy with that.

Has anyone found any decent looper apps? What about MIDI control apps ?

I'm quite hesitant about getting Garageband for iPad, I haven't really found out if it can actually record external sources like other recording apps like Multitrack DAW. It seems it only records sounds from its internal bank.

I'm also looking for a good sounding drum machine/sequencer if anyone has found good ones.

Anyone here use Morph Wiz...? Seems like it would be fun and it's only $10. I have an iPad2, but I have not yet had the chance to add $$$ to my account.

Guitar toolkit or your not a guitarist.
That's for beginners. A real guitarist doesn't need chord and scale diagrams...and a tuner pffff...I have perfect pitch and tune by ear.

I will say that some of the chords it shows on Guitar Toolkit are ridiculously awkward though. You can find a chord, then scroll through all the inversions and all that mess, but some of them are completely impractical. You can adjust all that for 6/7 strings, banjo, ukele, or whatever. I've been doing some jazz theory lessons so having that on hand has saved my ass a couple times, haha.
