different strokes I guess. The stock impulses are like night and day in comparison, but I never used the stock ones in the standard and ultra. For higain no I don't think it's a big upgrade in sound. The USB though is worth everything alone :D

About another blanket's worth. :D

First of all the Ultras are selling mostly in the $1600-$1700 range. Good luck getting one for less

I got my Axe2 with coupon so it cost me $2199

Totally worth the upgrade (even if someone pays the $2599 retail price)

The amp modeling is way way way better on the new axe 2,it's worth every penny!

Is the Axe 2 worth it? In my opinion no... I don't think there were to much of a difference between the first Axe Fx than with the Axe Fx2. Not enough to justify that an Ultra goes for about half the price used.

BUT with that said, Axe Fx2 is made to be upgraded majorly and it's definitely going to be worth it in the long run.

I will always prefer tube amps before using an axe fx for recording, but other than that they are excellent units well worth all the hype they're getting.

Here's my latest AxeFx2 video for those who haven't seen it:

Hello! Was wondering if you have that patch posted anywhere? It sounds killer and I'd like to try it!

Got on the waiting list on the first day (June 19th) and got the coupon Sept 14th

Pretty much my take, as well. Tried the II, and didn't feel the need upgrade from the Standard.

Spot on! Maybe some old Ultra owners which now have the II were unable to tweak their Ultra.
Have the Ultra for 2 years now and keeping it and happy with it. Also the II has some issues the Ultra does not have. And do not forget that the rest of the chain amp/cab or FRFR have a much bigger influence then the difference between the Ultra and II.

Even if it sounds the same, the headphone out, USB connectivity, tweaking dials, and ability to use as an interface are all very cool features worth the different in price. However, if you're unsure about modeling or don't need those features, then grab an Ultra instead. I've only ever played a Standard myself, but have a II on the way soon from Tone Merchants.
