So these things blew up have been out for a while and after im sure many users have had some time to tinker what do you guys think? Worth the money? Pros and Cons?

I have no xp with these, im guessing its like a line 6 HD type but better?

I use a VHT Pitbull and love it extremely, but I should be able to dial in almost anything with the Axe fx right?

You can pick up a Standard and it will do anything and everything you need. Don't shell out the $2500+ for a new Axe II.

Got mine for $2199 with coupon and it's totally worth it.

Can go from VH, Floyd, Lamb Of God, The Police, Rush, Metallica, U2 at a push of a button with spot on tones.

Not to mention you can shape your own tones(we can fool ourselves that we have our own tones) lol

i'd say yes but my tube amps are going nowhere :) i just use an axe fx std at home, at least for now while i program and what not

It can replicate and cop a ton of tones really well, not to mention the effects quality and ease to record

But ultimately if say a cranked 15w blues junior with pedals delivers the tone you're after then thousands of extra options might not be the best thing, the axe goes incredibly deep in which you can get lost sometimes

If fractal came out with a pedalboard like the G-System but it actually worked I'd be first in line...

I absolutely love mine. I am constantly running downstairs to plug in to it even if I only have 10 minutes to play. There are so many great sounds in that thing and it is very inspiring. I like having such a huge arsenal of tones.

If my Axe-FX II ever broke, I'd have no problem picking up an Eleven Rack or PODHD, etc. The modelling stuff is getting alot better. Don't get me wrong, I love a good tube amp but I'm having fun with the technology. :)

Just sign up for the coupon list now then do the research.
It won't hunrt.

I just got my axe fx 2 and I'm blown away at how much better it sound to my ultra!!wow!!!

And that alone makes it worth every penny.

Is the Axe 2 worth it? In my opinion no... I don't think there were to much of a difference between the first Axe Fx than with the Axe Fx2. Not enough to justify that an Ultra goes for about half the price used.

BUT with that said, Axe Fx2 is made to be upgraded majorly and it's definitely going to be worth it in the long run.

I will always prefer tube amps before using an axe fx for recording, but other than that they are excellent units well worth all the hype they're getting.

Here's my latest AxeFx2 video for those who haven't seen it:

and there I did it again, me promoting my own videos... shame...

Ola which rig do you use live at the moment, Axe or Mesa ?

cheers

Axe Fx right now since I don't own ANY amps at the moment :D

you said you didn't see that much difference between the Ultra and the II - i know other people have gone nuts about how much better the II is, i know you know what you're talking about with this shit - what's your take on it ?

I'd get an AxeFX Ultra since there are a ton of these for sale right now, and you could get one pretty cheap. If a modeling unit is for you then you can consider upgrading to the AxeFX II or the next version in the future.

But bang for the buck, I think an Ultra is a good choice...especially since you haven't tried one of these before.

IMHO It really all depends on your needs and tastes. For me since I don't gig anymore, mainly play at moderate to low volume, and like the convenience of direct recording and re-amping and for me, while not exactly like a tube amp, it is the better one of the modeling world.......it is worth it for me.

I've gigged an Ultra for the past year and used at home pretty much daily, for me:

Pros
Sounds great at house volumes
Very simple set up live - Rack, with one midi cable to my Ground Control Pro, quick to set up and put down
Feels very similar at low and high volume
Massive flexibility - can cover any style
Super reliable
Lightweight

Cons
Infinite tweakability - you can get lost messing with miniscule parameters, steep learning curve to really get the most out of it
Harder to adjust on the fly live than an amp
Takes time to get set up for live use, but when you're there it's easy
Price is not just the Axe, you need Rack , midi controller, power amp, midi cables (expensive) etc
Does it feel like a tube amp at serious volume ? most would say not quite, maybe 80-90% there
The MIDI connection on the Ultra to use Axe Edit is shit (much better on the II)

easily replaces my tc electronic g force, and various other rack effects gear and consolidates to 2 spaces from a 12 space for LESS money
that is worth it!

If you don't use it for its amp and cabinet modeling it has a ton of different effect that you can use like Mixo mentioned. Digital / Anaog Delays, Phasers, Wahs, Compressors, Overdrives, Pitch shifters, Flangers, distortions, chorus.

I'd also recommend using a real guitar cab. I have an Atomic Amp FR speaker cab, and the bass is really boomy with that cab. Sound much better thru a normal guitar cab to me.

The difference between the ultra and the axe fx 2 is huge!!!!if you haven't tried them next to each other u just don't know!!
